    Southeast Kansas Barn

Sorry, it's a traditional split system, not a mini-split or an (all outside) "Package" unit. So forced air furnace inside. Still don't know what the rated BTU is. Based off the number I have and that he's recommending Goodman, it is likely 100,000BTU furnace

I'll have to find out. What they put on the quote was 3ton 96%

    Southeast Kansas Barn

Got a quote on a 3 ton forced air split unit. HVAC guy says that once the insulation is done it'll be more than enough to heat/cool the 30x50x12 room evenly with just minimal ducts pointed out across the room with the unit positioned about five feet from the end futhest from the OH doors...

That insulation is just the white on both sides bubble wrap type with a minimal "R" value. it keeps the building about 10 degrees above or below the outside temp. Opted for that since the entire thing will be insulated with fiberglass on the walls and probably blown cellulose in the attic the...

    Southeast Kansas Barn

Southeast Kansas Barn 30x50 Well, it has been up for a year and I'm finally getting a thread going. It's a 30x50 (12'Ceiling) pole barn with 4" concrete and a 10 foot porch on the long side. Four 2'x4' awning windows with the bottoms at 8' on the south side for ventilation and light. Primary...

    Scroll Saw ID ??

Have had this around for several years, just put new wiring on it and decided to put it in the garage sale. Since noone even gave it a glance I figured I'd try to figure out what brand etc it is, but I can't find any marks on it at all. Heavy cast iron throughout. Anyone have any ideas who made...

a rant for the HVAC guys

Our local supply houses will sell me anything but gas valves. To get those I have to have my "HVAC guy" call and tell them he will be installing/inspecting it. I understand with them it is a liability issue in case someone blows their house up.

Is it possible to insulate a hip roof inexpensively?

I have the luxury of doing one wall at a time so I can add all the little things as I go. Only have to get one wall right at a time. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of working in an empty space. Just clearing out a section at a time, then shifting stuff around for the next one.

Is it possible to insulate a hip roof inexpensively?

I'll climb up and measure the duct to the cupola. That will govern how many CFM I can push out and how much fan I need. Most whole house type fans want at minimum 8-10 sq ft of vent. Looks like I have around 1. I have time to plan, we are doing the walls first one section at a time. Why doesn't...

Is it possible to insulate a hip roof inexpensively?

Good idea. Not sure if the cupola is big enough for the airflow of an "attic" type fan, but could definitely put a fan up there with some kind of shutter in front of it. I'm in South East Kansas so we get the heat/humidity and sub-zero weather. Misery for every season! ;) So the fan in the...

Is it possible to insulate a hip roof inexpensively?

Thanks for the input! Sounds like my options are either go the standard route and vent the soffits, add ceiling and insulation as in a standard vented attic, or go cheap and insulate the roof and put a shutter on the cupola for winter. There are several things like pulling engines out that make...

    Cool Work Bench

My last shop had a 12 foot cantilevered bench out 24 inches. Just 2x4s angled up from the wall footer (no sheeting or insulation) and a 2x4 frame with chipboard on top. Beat the **** out of stuff and tossed Pontiac big block heads around on them for years. Never wiggled. Current one has some big...

How do you clean that? Just grab the pressure washer and hose it out?

    Long time lurker.

Been lurking a long time getting ideas on flooring, etc. Starting a project on my 20x20 that we've been in for several years and will be looking for movable storage/shelving ideas and insulation info.
