    Wells Index Serial Number

Does anyone know if the serial number in a Wells Index 747VS vertical mill can be located anywhere other than the model number plate. The plate on a friend's machine is covered by electrical boxes.

    Craftsman Drill Press

Here's another DIY speed reducer, on a DP for sale on FB Marketplace in North Carolina. A right angle arrangement might have helped.

I was guessing on the pulley sizes. I just measured them and recalculated: that arrangement would produce 181 RPM at the quill with a 1725 RPM motor. Unfortunately, the PO used a 3450 motor, so he was getting 362 at the quill. Still, a clever and relatively inexpensive speed reducer. Anyone...

Which calculates to 90 RPM at the quill.

The jackshaft and additional pulley are shown in the second image. According to the Engineering Toolbox (https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/pulley-diameters-speeds-d_1620.html) that arrangement should drop the RPM at the spindle from 525 to 210.

    Craftsman Drill Press

This 103.23140 followed me home from an auction today, and had a notable custom feature: the previous owner installed the motor 90 degrees to the side, thereby taking up a little less floor space, and possibly reducing the speed?

Show us your cool, "old" drill press

Saw that, but cannot support his grotesque pricing strategy. I really would have liked hammered dark green for my 1900's Sterling power hack saw, and would have paid a reasonable price for it, but $40 a can isn't reasonable.

I have been trying to find that for months, to no avail, even searching every mom and pop hardware store within reach.

Great job. What paint did you use?

    Vintage Toolbox Color Options

Good luck finding a hammertone spray paint other than black, gray, brown or copper. I haven't seen red or blue available at all, but green can be found, at $60 a can.

    Sterling #2 Power Hacksaw

Another project followed me home last week. The machine has been rode hard and put up wet; there is evidence of a number of repairs, some parts are missing, but it still runs and still cuts metal. I have been unable to find much useful information on it, even at VintageMachinery.org. It came...

    Motor Info Plate Attachment

I appreciate everyone's advice. I have ordered some drive screws. Major plus: no expensive tools needed for installation.

    Motor Info Plate Attachment

I'm familiar with drive screws to attach plates to castings, But I can't see them as an effective way to attach a nameplate to a 22-gauge stator band: I have access to both sides of the band, I'm just not sure of the type of connector to use.

    Motor Info Plate Attachment

I've been through the 18 pages relating to "rivet" without success. What are people using to re-attach motor info plates? I have been to a few of the mentioned supplier websites (Hansen, Jay-Cee), but am not sure what I'm looking for (seems more like an eyelet than a rivet). Pop rivets won't...

    Vintage, "Suitcase" Carpenters Tool Box

You might want to also search for Joiner's Toolbox. It was one of my first serious hand tool projects many years ago.
