    They're attic trusses. :)

    Metal ceiling in pole barn

It is not regular plastic - it is some kind of woven material. They called it a "wrap."

    Metal ceiling in pole barn

Thanks for the drawing! Makes more sense now. Good advice. Will do. Thanks – I am checking it out now. Thanks for the advice, sideways. And this in particular caught my eye: When they built my barn they installed a vapor barrier ("wrap") on the walls and roof. Is it still necessary for me to...

    Metal ceiling in pole barn

Yes. About 40 minutes north of Dayton. Excellent! Thank you – I’ll check it out. Thanks. And this brings up another question: I eventually want to install interior walls (steel). Dumb question, but what is typically installed first? Is steel put up for the walls first, followed by the steel...

    Metal ceiling in pole barn

A few years ago I had a pole barn built. It is 40' X 40' with a 10' ceiling (10 feet from the concrete floor to the bottom of the trusses). I ran wiring for lighting. But I don’t want to install the fixtures until a metal ceiling is installed on the bottom of the trusses. There’s a lumber yard...

    Grounding Rods

My cousin Barbra is married to an electrician. I asked her to ask her husband about it. His response: So I think I'll just install the rods 12' away from the barn.

    Grounding Rods

New barn (40' X 40' x 10'), new panel. It's a main panel (120/240 V), not a sub panel. I think it's a 120 A panel. Not even sure what that is. I installed the panel a couple years ago, and it works fine. But I haven't yet installed the 8' copper ground rods. Hence my original question. Thanks

    Grounding Rods

Ohio. I will eventually pour a concrete skirt on each side of the barn. The skirt will probably be 8 feet wide. I am not sure how to handle this for the grounding rods. Should I place the rods 12 feet away from the barn, so they will be beyond the concrete skirt once it's poured?

    Grounding Rods

I installed a main panel in my barn. According to NEC, the panel needs to be grounded to the earth via copper rods outside my barn. I believe I need to install two copper rods, each at least 8' in length, and at least 6' apart. The wire between the panel and copper rods needs to be #6 AWG or...

    Wiring and steel ceiling/walls

I understand how an outlet box is installed when using drywall for new and old construction. But what about steel? I have a 40' X 40' X 10' pole barn. Trusses are made of wood, and they're on 2 foot centers. I am having a steel ceiling installed. The steel will screw directly to the bottom of...

How to build interior walls in pole barn?

Thanks for the info. I like the idea of building stud walls. Would fiberglass be a wise choice? Just wondering if moisture would be a problem (hence my reason for mentioning extruded polystyrene). And can I use regular ol' Romex for the wiring, just as you do in a home?

How to build interior walls in pole barn?

We live in west central Ohio, and I recently had a 40' X 40' pole barn built. I would like to install electrical receptacles, lighting, insulation, and walls. See pics below. I am looking for guidance on how to build the walls. What type of insulation should I use? Extruded polystyrene? What...

Just built a pole barn. Looking to apply epoxy coating to concrete floor.

Yep. More info here: https://www.permacolumn.com/what-are-perma-columns I didn't want any wood in the ground, since moisture can rot wood. Plus it makes them less susceptible to insect damage. Money well spent, IMO. A few specs on the barn: - 40' X 40'. - No wood in the ground. - No nails...

Just built a pole barn. Looking to apply epoxy coating to concrete floor.

** Update Jun 22 2013 ** Sorry for resurrecting this zombie thread, but I wanted to provide an update on our barn. A little background: we live in west central Ohio, and I had a 40' X 40' pole barn built last summer. I had a concrete floor installed during the build, and knew that I eventually...
