A couple what are they tools

Item in 4th picture is a crank puller for a cotterless square taper bicycle crank. This style crank is found on the majority of multi speed bicycles produced in the last 45 plus years. Not for an Octalink or similar crank. It should not be used on a hollow crank or crank with a nut vs...

    Hinge bore jig

I assume you are going to be installing Blum ( or similar -you need a round hole drilled in to back of the cabinet door) self closing hinges on your cabinets. Lowes or Home Depot carries a plastic jig and drill bit kit to bore the hole in the door. I used one a few months ago to mount a new...

    Door Handles / Locks That Don't ****

Had Baldwin in last house - lasted 20 years. Finish was great, everything else was cheap ( Kwikset internals if i remember correctly). Lever handle broke and was replaced under lifetime warranty. Units were never smooth as was expected for the price- not a big fan of the brand as they are...

Got a warrantee replacement hammer from Snap-On

I had almost the same issue. Same hammer and age- one of the faces deteriorated. I walked onto my local Snap On truck for a replacement under warranty. It was out of stock on the truck, new one was ordered and arrived two weeks later. Quality and good customer service goes a long way.

Solar Swimming Pool Heat DIY with Hubitat / Webcore Automation

Very informative- newer pool user. I am thinking of a solar heater and as usual the devil is in the details.

    The Bicycle (Specialty) Tools Thread

Many times the issue will be the size of the hex in the fastener. Use a 2.5 mm hex (Snap On is a good source) key with a good amount of steady downward pressure and a moderate amount of rotational force and you should be fine. Using a t handle tool is going to be an issue- they work...

Garage shelves close to being done - final few strength questions

Animals love to poke around the smell of trash. A racoon will find a way to get into almost any container- Next in line are the bears as issue here in western CT. A bear will break into a house after smelling an apple left on a table- hard to imagine but true. Just happened this week near...

    Bike torque wrench error tolerance

If you are concerned about correct torque value a Park Tools torque wrench should be avoided- especially at the lower values a bicycle mechanic mostly encounters. Buy a Snap on or similar and move forward. Park tools are somewhat ok at best- nothing special they are not. I speak the truth...

What grease to pack loose ball bearings with and how many to use?

If only it was a Shimano freehub! FYI Shimano supplied rebuild kits for their freehub (that was hardly ever needed) that had bearings, pawls and shims. Newer offerings not supported like the old days. Do not be too concerned about lateral play in the freehub. Adjust to have smooth feel and...

What grease to pack loose ball bearings with and how many to use?

Bearings in freehubs (not bearings supporting axle) do not take much abuse. Replace 1/8 bearings with race looking full then remove one. Remember you are spreading 1/8 inch that one bearing occupied across a large circle of remaining bearings. Grease wise Bullshot is great as is Finish...

Buying a 16ga nailer and orbital palm sander today, Air or battery powered?

Battery powered is the way to go. I have the Ryobi air strike nailer as well as their RA battery powered sander- both great tools. My Ryobi tool collection is always growing and pushing my air and corded tools to the never used shelf. The nailer is somewhat heavy but does such a fantastic...

    Whole House/Garage Minisplit Install!

Sizing is going to be an issue. You need a good load calculation (your location is important) to start the entire project. Please remember all mini splits are not the same, the devil is in the details(performance specifications). I did a similar install and my load calculations were calling...

Just beautiful. I am on the lookout from this point on for the same workbench. Your attention to detail is shown and very much appreciated. I wonder how many thousands were in factories years ago. Love the dog keeping an eye on things!!!!!!
