    Vertical Mill hoist

I got bored last January and did as you suggested above. Looked at jib cranes, davit cranes, engine hoists etc. Saw the pickup cranes at HF and waited for a big coupon sale and got one. Already had the winch laying in a corner. Set the hydraulic jack, boom and boat winch aside. Welded up a...

Table Saw and Router Plate Distance Question

I would put it towards the far end of the 4x8 table. Mine is that way and works well (Tho my saw is turned 90deg from yours). Wherever you put it, consider routing a tee track or two in the tabletop for fences and accessories as stated above. (My next week's project). Also consider routing...

Using tempered hardboard for workbench top...

Made this one out of a used solid core door years ago. 1/4" hardboard glued to the door and wrapped with 1/2" oak. Has worked out great. Only been re oiled once in 20+ years.

    Air Dryer Bypass

I installed a bypass- more so to take the dryer out of the system if it ever had problems. Fine for 10 years then recently I was glad I did. A part failed causing a leak. Took a couple of weeks to get the part. Closed two valves and opened one and no down time or re-piping needed.

    Increasing existing shop doorway height

Yes you certainly could. Sawzall the 2x4 flush to the inboard side of the cripple and leave the 1-1/2" block in place. Add some screws and blocking low down to hold the 2x8s together if needed. Or could you just pull the door and frame out, bring the mill in and reinstall as before...?
