    shocked at a drywall quote

I remodeled my basement a few years back, ended up needing about 40 sheets (around 1300 sq ft) hung, no ceilings but quite a bit of seaming/feathering required. I got 5 quotes, and the best one I got was $3800, they provided everything and $2800 if I provided and stocked the drywall. That...

    Finishing my basement --HVAC--

I have a similar sized home as you with similar weather (i'm in kansas). I have one 4.5 ton heat pump, with propane backup for when the outside gets below 30deg, that does my 1300 sqft main floor and 700 sqft upstairs. The portion of my basement that is finished is about 1200 sqft, since...

Cost for a professionally done epoxy job ?

$5 a sqft to lay simple tile? Holy ****, the tile setters must all drive excalades. I've never seen a tile setter make more than a couple bucks a square foot unless they are doing something really tricky.

    Wall Covering

Just an option, I did drywall from the floor up 4 ft all around my shop, didn't tape or mud, then covered that drywall with 4x8 sheets of 1/4 plastic that I found at menards for about $18 a sheet, used liquid nails to attach it to the drywall. Easy to clean up/wipe down and no worries about...

    Compressor Plumbing

Your plasma isnt going to use a whole lot of air (volume wise), what it does use is at pretty low pressure (usually 40 psi or so) so I wouldn't step up to 3/4 just for that reason...

    Garage Exhaust Fan Question

You haven't covered this, but the recommendations people are giving are really talking about 2 different situations, do you have a finished ceiling with or without insulation in the attic? If you you dont have a finished ceiling any option you are talking about will work fine, if the ceiling is...

Just got a quote for my 2.5 detached shop. Thoughts?

I'm in Kansas so I'd imagine costs would likely be nearly the same. A 30x40 pole barn style would be around 20k for what you are looking for with minimal site prep, 6" slab and no electrical or driveway or permits, etc. stick built construction is about 20% higher so something like that would...

    Bath remodel

I dont know what the water resitance is of $20 bills but if you were to coat the entire shower area in them I'd venture to guess you'd be money ahead of using the kerdi/wedi systems :) Does anyone still do a good old fashioned "mud" pan these days?

    Barn ceiling and insulation questions.

my shop is 30x40 I did 13'6" panels with a drywall lift by myself, not my favorite thing but it was ok. Remeber you want a bit of overlap, but you gotta think ahead when installing the panels so you dont get an unmanageable "bunch" at the corners. I also did the plastic, cause it was cheap and...

    PSA swollen lug nuts

I had those 2 piece jobs on a fullsize Chrysler car that had 14mm studs...a couple of the lugnuts wouldn't come loose on one wheel from corrosion, etc. Dealership had to cut a wheel off because even their 1" impact wouldnt snap the stud. Crazy stuff. I meediately replaced with gorilla lugnuts

Would stained garage walls look good?

Drywall was just because it was cheap and a good backer for the plastic sheeting. No mudding and taping, my poles are 8 feet apart so I just used full sheets. I'll dig up some pictures. stand by

Any reason to keep lots of leftover vinyl plank?

Most of those LVTs say to replace a plank you actually cut the offending piece out and replace it using super glue to bond its edges to the original pieces. Sounds dicey but actually turns out decent, if you take your time.
