So... I got to enjoy my competed shop for roughly 6 months and then made the decision to sell our house and relocate for a new job. We moved form northern BC to more central interion BC. Sticker Shock 30x40 New Build

can you manage any of it yourself? If you can get a few buddies to help throw the roof on, tackle the siding over a couple weekends... 90k does induce sticker shock, but you are getting a whole lot of building, 1200 sq ft with a second floor loft, not your average 2 car garage.

Its a real shop now! Got the electrical all tightened up and things in place. Bought a couple sheets of plywood and some MDF and set to designing my outfeed table. I had the rough in electrician leave a fair length of wire for plugs to be installed in the outfeed table, one 110 and one 220v for...

Has anybody here built their garage THEMSELVES?

It's been a process for sure! I built a 20x24 shop mostly using a "package" from home hardware. I really just went the package route to simplify the permitting process; the plans are approved and easy to attach to the permit without having to justify or explain everything to the inspector. I...

Picking up steam now! After finishing the mud and tape I went with a mild green colour for the walls (Caribou Lichen from the National Parks of Canada collection). A friend came over to help install the 4000 watt electric heater. This thing works great! wired in a simple wall thermostat, set it...

    shop paint colours

About ready to paint my long, slow build cabinet shop. I am painting the ceiling this weekend just a plain ceiling white. Not certain about the walls though. I was originally wanting to incorporate some green to match my General tablesaw, a horizontal band or just he window and door trim. Any...

    DalyArcher's cabinet shop build

his has taken a LOT longer than I had anticipated it would. Hard to believe I started this whole thing before my wife was pregnant with our little princess who is already a sassy, chatty 2 year old! When last I left this blog I had just drywalled the ceiling. We stalled at this stage for a...

Wow! Did I ever let this drop off :headscrat Well, time for an update I suppose. Last year did not see a whole ton of progress on the shop. I am still months away from fully using it. It's been a busy year nonetheless. March 29 of last year my darling little princess - Amelie Marion Daly was...

Concrete placement - Chute too short to reach ??

my pour was 17 yards total. No way to get the truck to the forms, 70 feet from my driveway to the front of the shop. Same predicament you are facing, small town, though we have two companies, $250.00 an hour for pump truck, 4 hour minimum. One company was willing to do a ground hose/conveyor...

    Alternative to 3/4" Roundover

You may want to flip it over and cut from the underside with the circular saw to reduce splintering and tear out.. Alternatively, score the cut line before hand and create a zero clearance base for your circular saw and use a fine tooth blade.

    Damn concrete is expensive :(

your price quote is also likely based on at least two, likely 3 separate pours - 1) footing, 2) wall, 3) slab. This will be reflected in labour costs.

    Damn concrete is expensive :(

a lot of unknowns. What sort of finish are they doing? Is it just a place and screed or are they power trowling it out to a polish for you? What does your local building authority require for footing size and reinforcement. I poured mine with 8 guys from my church. Couldn't get the truck...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Building my cabinet shop and had always planned for a tablesaw upgrade. Couldn't afford a $4000.00 plus pwermatic or new Unisaw. General closed the Canadian manufacturing plant a few years ago and original machines are much sought after. Found this gem on Kijiji and snapped it up. Haven't...
