Thanks for all of the input. My local electrical supply will have another subpanel for me in the am. In the long run, I won't remember the extra 80$ I had to spend, only that it looks and works like I wanted. I will chalk this one up to experience! Thanks again everyone for weighing in. I think...
Hi Folks:
I bought a new subpanel for the electrician to install in my shop. Asked the local electrical supply store for a Square D panel, main lug and didn't think twice about it. I left it at the shop for the electrician to install. My plan was to take most of the circuits out of the top of...
Hi Folks: I am running a 220 circuit to my compressor. I thought I read it was okay to use one of the legs to run an associated 110 circuit for the auto drain but couldn't find a post. Am I correct or all washed up? If okay, what size wire do I use for the 20 amp outlet? 12 gauge or the same...
Hi folks: I have three of these used switches in good shape. They were originally installed to shut off power to subpanels. My question is whether I could use one as a disconnect switch for a 7.5 hp 220v single phase air compressor. Pictures attached. Thanks for any input. Daniel
I saw some other posts stating need to separate low voltage and high voltage wires where there are splices. Thought being removing outer jacket from low voltage cable removes 600v rating and increased risk for short. May have been some code interpretation by others somewhere in there. Thanks for...
Hi Folks: I am installing Sylvania strip 2a led lights (4 foot and 8 foot) in my shop. I am using luminary cable and Lutron Powpak dimmer/controllers. I am using small junction boxes attached to the light fixture to splice the low voltage wires separately outside of the fixture. My question is...
Hi Folks:
I am using luminary cable to wire my led lights with lutron Powpaks. It looks like standard MC cable connectors won't work (extra wires won't fit through restricted opening). What is everyone using in this case? Special connectors? NM cable connectors? Thanks for any suggestions, Daniel
Got it! Increased protection would be the only thought. Maybe mc isn't necessary. There were some old NM runs there when I bought the building (stripped those circuits out).
I like the look of emt, but would like to use mc as much as possible in this case. Baseline would be MC right out of the panel. Thought it might look neater or be better to start with emt and then transition to mc. My description is pretty muddy :(
