    Quiet air compressor

I got a Kobalt (rebranded Sanborn) 60 gallon 3 HP from Lowe's on clearance with 20% off in January ($300). Not bad for the money, but noisy. Oil bath unit, but pump spins too fast and makes it hot and loud. If I had to do it all over again, this is what I would get: Eaton 60 gallon...

Used motor Oil Storage-NEW GUY POST

I went to the local tractor dealership and asked for an empty 5 gallon hydraulic fluid bucket. It has a resealable lid, and a flexible pour spout in the lid with a screw-on cap. Makes it easy/clean to dump the contents.

Sears Sells Reman. Ratchets as New!

I purchased the 260 pc tool set from Sears for Christmas. The 1/2" ratchet had a sticker on the handle and a barcode that said "rebuilt". This was in a NEW tool set off the shelf at my local Sears. I'll take a photo and post when I get the chance.

garden tiller, what to look for?

have an old troy built "horse" and an old ariens "rocket" tiller. both are very heavy duty and way overbuilt. cast iron everything, robust gearboxes, heavy gauge steel, etc. you can always repower an old one with a new motor if you need to. d.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

1000 pound hydraulic motorcycle lift: PASS http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91764 works just fine with both of the heavy-ish bikes i have. not the most sophisticated lift around, but it is sturdy enough. if your bike does not have a center stand, the wheel...

You've got 24 hours to bury your tools - what do you bury them in?

for your "tools", ammo cans and cosmoline. http://www.mil-specproducts.com/cosmo_l.aspx?gclid=CIzQ6M7VnZkCFR2dnAodNlBUDQ it may be slightly tough to get off, but i'd rather use a little elbow grease and kerosene than have the barrel and receiver on my "impact gun" go rusty.

    Compressor Oil

My Kobalt 60 gal cast iron I got a few weeks ago specifies 10w30 fully synthetic motor oil as the ONLY (sticker said only use Mobil 1) oil to be used in the compressor. Wonder if they are engineering a failure on purpose so you have to buy a new compressor every few years? ***edit***...

Anyone know anything about Stanley Bedrock planes?--dialup users beware.

it's not a bedrock. it is a stanley "Bailey" model with a bedrock chip breaker. nothing special. found under every rock. probably worth about...$22. http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0a.html that links to "Patrick's Blood and Gore". a site dedicated to antique stanley woodworking...

Making an old tool cart with fresh paint look older again...need advice.

one thing i do when distressing an "antique" piece of furniture is to (gently, underhand) throw a few handfuls of rusty nuts and bolts at it a few times. the idea with the shoe polish is good too. rub it on and buff it off and it will get in the crevices a bit for some instant age. also...
