Thanks everyone. I've ordered a new vise, and am going to look into table flex to see how much it's deflecting, and then see about propping it up.
I'm also going to look into getting a mill.
I have a floor drill press which I believe is of reasonable quality (Ridgid R1500).
I also have a cheap 3" 'drill vise' from a local tool store, and a thick piece of scrap aluminum that I use as a base when things don't fit well in the vise.
I've had lots of issues with drilling large diameter...
I was originally going to weld a bung to the bottom, but I decided instead that I can just pump it out. I think it will take more than a year or even two years to fill up to the holes on the front.
I made this contraption to drain my large pan.
It is a 3x3 aluminum tube with welded ends, a slot cut in the top, and two rods in it. The two rods keep it from sitting in what runs off of the pan.
The top is held against the wall with a rare earth magnet. Works like a charm.
Got the call yesterday. The board had a stuck relay, so they replaced the board.
The welder is a little over 3 months out of warranty, but they fixed it for free. I just need to pay a small transportation fee of about $40.
Picking it up next week. Can't wait.
Thanks for all the input.
My Miller 211 isn't flowing gas properly. As soon as I power up the welder (no trigger), I can hear gas flowing out the nozzle, but very slowly, nowhere near what it should be when the trigger is squeezed. Squeezing the trigger has no effect, it just flows that little bit still.
I took the side...
I took his idea (thanks) and I did the bending with my bare hands by leaving lots of extra length to use for leverage. The 1/4" round bar bent without much resistance around a 3" diameter tube. I didn't need any heat or anything.
I'd post a pic but they look the same, just different dimensions.
From the department of excess: Funnel storage in a metal drum.
Start with a metal drum that used to be full of bulk chain:
Take a piece of sheet metal full of holes and weld little feet to it:
Seal the bottom of the drum with RTV, and drop in the metal base from earlier:
Toss funnels...
