I've been waffling back and forth about getting one of these. Anybody see value in using the dust deputy with a hepa dust extractor, or are they meant for a shop vac?

Great idea to use the vise to hold the bit captive. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the advice.

A few weeks ago I picked up this Starrett 924 that had been sitting on OfferUp for a while. The seller originally listed it after it had apparently lost a fight with a paint mixer. When it didn't sell, he cleaned it up and spray painted it gray, but he didn't even bother to remove the washers...

Hoorn, that machine has all the bells and whistles. Absolutely gorgeous. All you're missing is a foot pedal switch!

I recently removed about 15 or so bushes and small trees from our property. I found the most useful tool by far is a 6 ft digging bar. A few strikes with the chisel end will sever the roots, and you can use its length to pry things around and loosen them up...

Finally got around to finishing the restoration of my 100 drill press and thought I would share. This thread was tremendously helpful through the entire process. My machine was in decent shape cosmetically but suffered from a lot of the common issues encountered here, such as bent spindle...

I was able to get the snap ring in and fully seated in the groove using the technique he described. Once it was in, I was even able to get the tips of some retaining ring pliers down into the hole to expand the ring further into the groove. It's in there for good now! So not a bad snap ring...

Also mac, your vises have come out looking great. I've seen you discuss your method of using the ultrasonic cleaner and radial bristle brushes in the rust removal thread here on GJ, and it's really motivated me to look into purchasing both.

So I called Cardinal again this morning and was able to get through. The man that I spoke to was very helpful and guided me through the process they use to seat the snap ring. He suggested that I clamp the jaw in a vise with the hole facing up and insert the screw into the hole while tilting...

Thanks all for the replies. I’ve got a call in to Cardinal. Hopefully I’ll hear back. The issue does appear to be with the snap ring. It doesn’t appear to have any elasticity. I’ll compress the ring to get it into the hole, but when it seats into the groove it doesn’t spring open, so the fit...
