    Handheld torch for bolts

Use a large punch on the center of the torx bolt and get some aggression out. Whether this is simply placebo or not, it has seemed to aide in freeing up stuck bolts in the past. I have used both oxy acetylene and simple little MAPP gas rigs too. Both can be affective. Oxy is much much faster...

    My Harbor Freight Investment

Woo, big thanks to you sir. Just installed the 2nd link, and PhotoBucket error messages are now pictures again. Didn't know that was even fixable without the OP's tweaks.

    Automotive shop management questions

Oh my dismay! I've been kicking around the idea of starting my own repair garage also. I thought I'd search the forum and see what topics for 'Automotive repair' turned up. Found this thread and was excited that somebody will have asked the questions, kicked things around for a while, had a...

    Need help identifying a tool!

My neighbor claims his dad had this tool, and his dad isn't sure what it is. Dad is 90 years old. While I'm a mechanic, and enjoy tools, I haven't the fuzziest what this one is. Little help would be appreciated. Only marking on the tool is 'MADE IN USA' pictured. While the little hose end looks...

Kobalt socket organizers at lowes $9.99

Just saw this sale in my Lowes today and came to the 'Hot Deals' forum to post. Seems someone has beat me to the punch. I bought the Hanson ones years ago at (I believe) ~$12 per 3/8" rack. I got the SAE & Metric racks for quarter, 3/8", and half. Love these racks. Absolutely love them...

Snap On semi-deep impact sockets on sale

I'm not a frequent Snap-On customer. (Read: I may buy off the guy once or twice a year) But this week he handed out his new sales flyer and hopped on his truck to chat with the mechanics. I rarely even grace his truck with my presence, but thumbing through the catalog I hopped on and off his...

Suggestions for a small drill driver

Man of few words, but you make a pretty sound argument. Price is right, features look great, I believe it sounds too good not to try. And the 100+ reviews on Amazon with such good marks. I like the replaceable batteries, the clutch, and a built in LED. Thanks much for this suggestion! DirtyRat

Suggestions for a small drill driver

Not sure the common name for what I'm after, but I'm looking for a new quarter inch bit holding/driver thingy. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/black-decker-36-volt-1-4-in-cordless-lithium-smartdriver-li4000.html The link above is very similar to what I had, and it worked for, probably 4-5 years...

    Airbag light on...

Many times they are connectors for air bags themselves in the side of the seat. Never seen one deploy but they're on the door side of the seat near your shoulder. A lot of problems with connectors under driver's seat, and they don't need a seat sensor for the driver's seat...right?

    Craftsman....Blah....

The reason I compared to Snappy is that's really the only competition locally. Lowes may have the next closest variety. The local Kmart sells Craftsman anyway, and not a very large selection. We have a Cornwell dealer too, but apart from his OTC/Lisle stuff, I find their prices too close to...

    Gasket removal from HELL

I've used the bristle discs as well. Just did a google search on the different colors, as I've wondered but never known the difference. (Also didn't know white was offered) I've used yellow and green, pretty much whatever my shop will give me. Green is suggested only for cleaning steel parts...

    Craftsman....Blah....

Craftsman not Blah.... I've read through pretty much all of this post, and won't respond to any one particular claim, but will simply give my Craftsman $.02. I bought my first Craftsman tools around 99 or 00, right before I graduated high school. Probably in 2000, but I got your big ol 250...

14mm unhardened raised panel craftsman wrench wrench

Worked at a Chevy dealer for a while, this guy commented that the bolt/nut in question was on his 01 Silverado. I'll admit I don't remember 100%, but I really doubt there is any 14 mm stuff on his truck. The previous body truck used 9/16" fasteners on this power steering bracket, but on an 01...
