I have the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 sets and haven't broken one yet. The are finnished nicer than my friends armstrong set.

Better than my prices. My local pawn shops price used power tools and equipment at new prices and haggle from there. Truck brand and craftsman sockets sell for around $3-8 a piece, ratchets for $20-70, wrenches $3-10. I check in fairly regularly. The only deals I ever find are in the quarter...

I should work correctly when it is assembled correctly. The selector should operate between the screws. This will allow the flats of the selector (inside) to rest on the pawls and hold itself in the direction you desire.

General hardware no.55 and plomb wf-8 $2 The wf-8 is missing a spring but looks like it had a rebuild kit put in it at some point because the teeth look new. Also it is 1/4" drive and not 9/32" like it should be. My best guess is someone lost the spring when installing a wf-8s rebuild kit...
