detached garage remote lighting: does this product exist?

I like the fact that it uses kinetic switches, but I still would have to use the wireless switch in the shop. And if that breaks I have to fork up another $200 instead of $5 at the local hardware store.

detached garage remote lighting: does this product exist?

Hi all, I've got a shop about 100 feet from the home that has exterior lighting for the back yard, currently switched from inside the shop. I would like to add a light switch in the house for these as well. I could run some wire underground to a 3-way in the house but the effort is just not...

options for detached garage feeder line connections

I am in total agreement with you guys. I was just trying to understand his rationale, even if it's grasping at straws.

options for detached garage feeder line connections

He got the 200A because of the two separate panels, each capable of drawing 100A, wired in parallel to the load side of the main CB on the combo box. I don't know if he was assuming a mechanical failure, super cold temps, short duration current spikes, etc. that would cause that CB to pass...

options for detached garage feeder line connections

Thank you guys for the great responses! I hadn't thought of this, thanks for the solid suggestion. Do you mind sharing which panel you had in mind? You're right--I wanted the electrical to be pretty future proof, especially since I was going direct burial, and scored some 1/0-1/0-1/0-2 AL for...

options for detached garage feeder line connections

Hi all, I'm wiring in my detached garage and may have put the cart before the horse a little. I've trenched and buried four 1/0 conductors to feed a 100 Amp panel (I realistically will probably only push out 50A max) inside the shop. The trench goes ~100 feet to the meter/main disconnect combo...

New member installing a 2nd main panel on detached garage

Yeah, I may cross that bridge later on if we decide to keep/stay in the home, but right now it's <1000 sq feet starter home on a single floor and unless we do an addition we won't fit in it once #3 comes along. At that point upgrading the service would just be another part of the expansion. I'm...

New member installing a 2nd main panel on detached garage

Right, feeders for the shop panel are not installed yet. but the idea would be to have them come up from the bottom. This is exactly the information I was after, thank you! I feel like I need to clarify, I don't want or plan to individually and simultaneously draw 100A from both the home...

Question on pigtails wiring a receptacle

You can pull the wires out of romex no problem. I personally go wire nuts unless space/ length requirements dictate wago. That said I'm not too concerned when using wagos, and not concerned at all if it's the lever type.

New member installing a 2nd main panel on detached garage

thanks for the correction there, I I guess I'd always thought of a main panel as one to have multiple breakers but yeah that makes sense. By dual taps I think you mean dual lugs? If so that's correct, 1 lug for phase A and 1 for phase B. If there's such a thing as a dual lug breaker that would...

New member installing a 2nd main panel on detached garage

Hey everyone. I've done a lot of searching but decided to create an account to get input specific to my situation (I learned enough to be dangerous as an apprentice while I was going through school and want to make sure I approach this without any assumptions--lets get this done right!) I've...
