    Clausing 4904 opinions

Looking for experienced feedback on clausing 4904 lathes. Any good or bad opinions. One came up for sale and I'm just trying to do a little research. I can't see it until next week. Any quirky characteristics to this model? Common issues?

    dayton thermal switch wiring

Looks that way. I think he said he sorta inherited it. Either way changing a few wires took 2 minutes and it runs. A little cleaning and a new pressure switch and it's good to go.

    dayton thermal switch wiring

I believe I figured it out. After wiping off all the dust, it appears as though the ID markings on the wires are still there. I should be able to follow the diagram on the name plate and wire properly. It seems as though the previous owner knew even less than me and had it wired incorrectly.

    dayton thermal switch wiring

edit/addition. the motor plate shows info for both 115v and 208/230v. is the 208/230 three phase? maybe the third wire is for that?

    dayton thermal switch wiring

picked up a cheap used compressor today. there is a dayton 2hp single phase motor on it, doubtful if it is original to the compressor. in the wire connection box on the side of the motor there is a thermal reset button that has 3 wires on the back of the switch. One of the three wires is...

    Bridgeport mill model deciphering

Ah, that may be my issue. I had the seller send the photo, apparently there must be another one. Thank you very much.

    Bridgeport mill model deciphering

I've been given the chance to purchase a used bridgeport. Before getting too involved with setting up the purchase I would like to research the mill a little. I've searched the model number on the web but it seems to just result in very broad information on bridgeport mills in general. This is...

    Logan lathe ID

I thought thd same with the turret tailstock. It just looks to me like someone has been intermingling parts. The person selling is not flexible enough on his price anyway so.........I'll keep shopping. Thanks for the responses.

    Logan lathe ID

I'm considering purchasing a Logan lathe I found online for sale. I'm unsure of the model or if the PO has done some interchanging of parts. he has a manual that claims its a 900 series machine, and someone wrote model 55456 on the manual and unit. I found a list online of models and their...

    Lathe suggestions

I want to say thanks again for all the help suggestions and guidance. I now have a much better idea of what to look for and what to avoid. I'm not 100% on usa made but would prefer it, but an older import may do for the right price. I think that I will pack a little more $$ away as I shop. I...

    Lathe suggestions

So is it fair to say that although the atlas is not the same quality, accuracy and rigidity of a Clausen, hardinge or Sheldon that an atlas in good condition is still a noticeable improvement over the harbor freight? I'm only asking because I'm trying to get a realistic mental list in order of...

    Lathe suggestions

Yeah and I guess the reality is I'm looking for a tool that is 60 plus years old. I'm just hoping to find the guy who bought it thinking they would use it and didn't, and 40 years later just wants it out of the way. Patience has never been a strength of mine, but I will have to be. I've now got...

    Lathe suggestions

It sounds like it may just be about patience and lots of looking, already in progress. Everyone really seems to be down on the Atlas, but I'm yet to read any specific examples of what is so bad about them? is it just the overall rigidity or what? Or is it just when compared to a $5000 Logan or...
