HVAC outdoor unit low pressure line - should this be insulated?

The larger (low pressure, suction) line gets insulated. The smaller (high pressure, liquid) line does not.....unless it's a heat pump. Dave

Excellent; I think you've got it set up nicely now. Cheers, Dave

HVAC outdoor unit low pressure line - should this be insulated?

the only time both lines typically get insulated is if it's a heat pump Dave

Is this overkill for my Pole Barn?

everythings a compromise. ....what type of work are you planning on doing in the shop? welding, grinding, woodwork? anything dirty? Dave

    performance drop on filtrete filter

...to much airflow for the duct size, not enough take offs, registers that are shut off, poorly manufactured fittings on the mains, dirty coil......could be any (or all) of those things. Dave

    performance drop on filtrete filter

My 2 cents: - delta T is too low; probably due to too much airflow. Try for 18-22 deg. F. - high static could easily be because the ductwork was sized for a lower airflow. Lowering the airflow will help both the delta T and the system static. Your original issue with high static caused by...

    Portable AC is useless

There are advantages and disadvantages to everything. I've used 2 hose portables many times to suppliment room cooling or to add cooling to a space that didn't have it and they've done the job. Not ideal, but sometimes cutting a hole in the wall or removing a window isn't in the cards and the...

    performance drop on filtrete filter

The real test will be to check the delta T but your likely OK with a bit of extra airflow. I've only ever used the Condensor size as the benchmark for CFM requirements, not the evap coil capacity. Dave

yep; 400CFM per ton is normally what's required. Dave

    performance drop on filtrete filter

well said. I own a sheet metal/HVAC company that does mainly institutional work; our jobs are fully engineered, we retain the services of a third party air balancing and commissioning agent, etc. etc. ......typical residential HVAC system installations make me shake my head. Dave

    performance drop on filtrete filter

Good thread. In simple terms, I advise people to use low static (meaning low efficiency) filters and change them often as almost all residential equipment is incapable of dealing with the increased static caused by higher efficiency filters. Run stand alone HEPAs if you have a need. The...

    Mini Split Heat Pump Question

The condensing unit installation instructions will have minimum required clearances shown. It is obviously meant to be installed outdoors. In order to have it inside and duct it, you would need positive air movement in the enclosure equal to or greater than the rating on the condensing unit's...

I just bought mine from Home Depot. counter is 3/4" plywood covered in 22ga galvanized. Work bench is heavy steel welded with 1.5" top. Dave

    Would this remove welding fumes?

There is a big difference between a source capture and general ventilation fan/system....do not assume that they have similar airflow requirements. Typically source capture systems use a relatively low volume and high capture velocity coupled with close proximity to the fume source to be...
