    DeWalt Screw drivers

Ditto. Same screw drivers here. Way better than Harbor Freight, probably way worse than SnapOn. And perfectly adequate in my garage. I use my screw gun 98% of the time anyway.

    Optimal work bench depth?

Yea, I gave this a fair bit of thought on my latest build and came up w/ 28". I enclosed the area under the bench top in plywood on the sides and back to create a 'box' that I later added sections to, and then drawers and cabinets. I wanted to use 24" drawer slides and still have a 4" overhang...

Light socket plug adapter to LED shoplights?

Yep. I'm using those Costco $20 fixtures. 2-prong, daisy chain-able, & I'll double check the double-grounded part but I would be very surprised if they aren't. And cheesy, absolutely. But just try writing up a wiring diagram for triggering a second bank of lights when you activate the garage...

Light socket plug adapter to LED shoplights?

What do you guys think about using a light socket plug adapter, which is 2-prong (example linked below), and a short extension cord to power a couple daisy chained 40W LED shop lights? Before you laugh, I did wire in proper plugs for my shop lights but I'd like to put this setup on my garage...

"Getting out of the wall" for surface installation

Can any of you code-savvy folks direct me to the codes that address this? I'd like to read up on this and understand exactly what I need to install. Again, the original builder mounted my electrical box on the inside edge of the drywall and I want to put a box on the outside edge of the drywall...

"Getting out of the wall" for surface installation

Yep. Definitely doing the improvements.Personal preference, I'm sick of drywall for this year. Conduit appeals to my inner 10-year old with tinker toys self. Thinking of running another circuit from the breaker box and then wiring 2-gang boxes, 1 gang 15A, 1 gang 20A. But then I start thinking I...

"Getting out of the wall" for surface installation

I'm not sure. I'd have to ask the contractor that did it in 1978. It may have to do w/ it being a light fixture.

"Getting out of the wall" for surface installation

Wow, I've been surfing here and reading for 2 days and didn't figure this out myself. THANKS Ace, Sparky, Jason. You answered all 3 of my questions. What needs done, how, and if it's required by code. Now to go find that square 4" with a cutout for the plastic goof ring. Amazon to the rescue.

"Getting out of the wall" for surface installation

I'm all set to start my surface installation of lights & outlets, tapping into the existing flush-mounted light and plug. My one issue is what exactly code allows when I mount a surface box on top of the existing flush-mounted box. I know to use a box extender, but here's the rub. The existing...

Are expensive 15 amp power strips really that much different?

Winner. Plan is now for hardwire. Strips for small stuff. Thanks guys.

Are expensive 15 amp power strips really that much different?

So it seems like I might be hearing that a 15 amp power strip is simply not adequate to begin with. DHCrocks had an el-cheapo work for 2 years and become unreliable, then bought a burly-looking "heavy duty" 4 ft workbench strip and did no better. He bought a 20-amp strip and problem solved. As a...

Are expensive 15 amp power strips really that much different?

So I'm looking at outfitting my bench with a couple power strips. It seems like my options are to spend a hefty sum for 20+ amp power strips or go with the seemingly ubiquitous 15 amp capacity. But wow there's a spread in price for 15-amp / 14 gauge cord power strips that seem electrically...

Good software for sharing plan ideas?

Hi all. I'd like to start some threads about cool ideas and projects I'm into, but it doesn't sound like a great plan to scan the back of bar napkins and post them. I'm talking simple stuff like shelves, workbenches, etc. Time to get into the 21st century, I need to go digital, at least to share...

    Shelving construction......

I'm in a similar boat, but looking for one row of shelves @ a bit more than 8' off the floor. Mine are going to be super wide shelves, 24", to support a zillion of those plastic tubs you store stuff in you need once a year. I'm planing to DIY wall braces from wood studs. But I reserve the right...
