Blue point is a good tool regardless of the COO. It's also owned by snap on so I'm sure they make a similar model, just search their website. I've got a similar one I use I think Greenlee or klein makes it.

Good price, best I could find was 2195 shipped. Miller is the standard for welding, so I doubt you will find any complaints about it. If you're looking for a less expensive alternative you should check out the hobart ironman230,. The lincoln is roughly the same price as the miller.

Not sure what you do in your shop but move to 1/2 impact, the angle grinder already mentioned is great, a DA sander comes in handy time to time, air hammer can be had cheap enough, and when you need it there's really no substitute. also some little stuff like an air chuck and blow gun are always...

Your gonna have to set the welder up for the thicker piece of metal. Focusing more of the heat on the thicker piece to have good penetration on both and still keep from burning through the smaller piece is part of the art of welding.
