    Flange bearing question

Confirmed! Did not take more than my 1/2" breaker bar. Many thanks, and yet again after 35 years wrenching on this or that, I still learn something new all the time!

    Flange bearing question

Hi All. I had to pull apart the blower unit on my Scag ZTR to weld some spots ahead of leaf season. While disassembling I destroyed one flange bearing and decided to just replace the one on the housing too. Got these from the dealer - one doesn't look too bad but one is pretty off center. I know...

Thoughts on this Franken-Welding Table idea?

There are a bunch more videos about this conversion than there were since the time I first thought of using the top. Many of them use the original Craftsman base/stand with beefier casters, and I actually still have the stand :). Might be worth just going with that for now until I fab...

Thoughts on this Franken-Welding Table idea?

So I was concerned about the overhang as well, and wanted to install as you described, but it will be too wide to fit w/o some modification... more so than what would likely be worth. The idea was to attack it from the front (where it's pushed to the end) and if stability was a concern to...

Thoughts on this Franken-Welding Table idea?

Yes... and there are kits available to install tee channel in the miter slots, if I'm so inclined. I was figuring on drilling some holes as well for hold downs etc, depending on how patient I am to drill multiple holes into thick cast iron :)

Thoughts on this Franken-Welding Table idea?

Hi Folks, I finally sprung for a welder last year, have it all wired up and ready, accessories bought, etc. The only thing I have been lacking is a welding table. Since I am both a shameless re-user and a tinkerer, I had long toyed with the idea of using my pop's old table saw top instead of...

Radiant foil barrier in ceiling joist question

Makes sense! Not sure how much XPS I could stuff over the lift, maybe 3/4" to 1" tops, and need to make it removeable so that the lift channel can be accessed if needed. The "thin piece" is actually the same 2" but sitting higher up. Same with sitting on the floor above... it's being used as...

Radiant foil barrier in ceiling joist question

Thanks... still trying to visualize the issue. I would think risk would be warm moist air getting behind the foil and condensing on the top side of the foil which is up against the coldest surface (the wood or XPS). In that case not sure if an air gap between foil and ceiling is better or...

Radiant foil barrier in ceiling joist question

Thanks, and you are correct. My thought is that they are installed directly on garage doors without an air gap (presumably to radiate the heat back inward) so in theory I should be able to do the same in the joist bays. Wasn't sure for the condensation comments whether you were referring to...

Radiant foil barrier in ceiling joist question

Hi All, Over the winter I insulated my now-heated garage (24" OC trusses) with R19 fluff. I was able to hit most of the ceiling except for two areas around my lift (Atlas PVL-10). One is the lift bay... bottom of my joists are only 11'2" and so the lift at lowest height sits in between two...

Anyone try this Eastwood multiprocess welder?

Have been looking at a multi-process while researching beginning welders and this one seemed intriguing. I know that many have strong feelings about MPs and especially MPs that try to do too much, but this one has DC AND AC TiG, has it's own cart built in, and seems like a great price for what...

    Resetting my garage door springs

it is 9' 7" from floor to track, minus the 8' door equals 1' 7" high lift

    Resetting my garage door springs

Correct that they are high lift, and 9' wide 8' high Raynor brand. So assuming 9 turns is the right spec, we are talking 36 quarter turns?

    Resetting my garage door springs

Fairly certain... when I pulled the release w/o the cable attached to the pulleys, they let go all at once. You can see the real guide lines and part numbers (lined up) in this closeup - same pic. Just the same though I'll put the bar in one of the holes and hold while I loosen the stops.

    Resetting my garage door springs

Ok last question... some videos recommend giving the bar a final tap before tightening to ensure it does not bind up. Is this a recipe for disaster? LAST last question... when tightening the set screws, what I hear most often is finger tight + 1/2-3/4 turn. This seems to align w/ the "don't...
