Curious if smooth face jaws were a standard thing on these old vises. Anyone know?
I’m cleaning up a new to me Parker 23. It has jaws w/smooth faces. No idea if they are original or not.
Anyone know?
Great ad’vise’. Tx! Yes cleaned and no pin. Examined under the vise. No pin and no hole for a pin!
There is a ‘wedge’ in the channel that I have circled in red in the pic below.
I’ll try to tap the dog with a hardwood dowel as you mentioned.
Disassembling this vise for cleaning and cannot figure out how the ‘dog’ is held in place. There is no pin or hole for a pin. The dog is slightly loose in the channel.
Anyone have experience with this?
Pretty amazing when shopping Parker vises - so many are missing the collars. Real shame. I want to believe there is a huge barrel of them somewhere - I'll stumble on it probably after I die and am in heaven.
Now, I need to stop buying vises without collars! Even if they are cheap!
Years ago...
So now I need to decide which vise to keep. One with the horn, one without. Really hard to read the model number on each.
I’m leaning to the hornless model as it has replaceable jaws. But, missing collar - which I will scavenge from another vise.
Which Would you choose? :-)
Thanks much Akasrick! Thinking i'll use longer machine screenws with backing nuts/washers vs. wood screws. At least in some of the holes.
Now I need to stop buying these vises with Bonney plates and find one with the updated rotation mechanisms!
Prob a stupid question. The plate for my model 23 has chamfered holes along the perimeter. Assume this plate is secured to the top of my bench via these screw holes?
Picture below.
Selling a fully functional Parker. Only issue is the slide has a chunk missing - hence cheap price. Otherwise she is in solid unmolested condition - ready to be lubed up and taken care of!
I think it says model 100 on the side but honestly it’s hard to read!
Pick up in CT or westchester NY.
Many thanks @Innovate1 The picture with the magnets in place is misleading. I placed them in there like that. As you state there is to be a space between them.
I'm going to test the polarity as you suggest and report back. THANK YOU
@RPH Tx for this. Makes sense. I may try to put this back together. If anything its a backup.
I'll fiddle with the magnets tonight to see if the polarity and positioning make sense.
