    Air Compressor Problem

Well, after looking at every minute detail of my compressor under a magnifying glass, I replaced the GFI outlet that my compressor was plugged into with a regular 20 amp receptacle and voila! It works like brand new. No more issues in that 8-110psi range. My problems with the compressor...

    Electric Motor Question

I have a single phase one horsepower motor that has both a start and a run capacitor. What are the symptoms of a bad run capacitor? Trying to diagnose a weird problem with my compressor. Thanks. Rob

    Air Compressor Problem

During that 80-110psi range, everything slows way down and I'm sure the motor must be asking for more juice. The circuit is 20amp and not tripping. The motor or the capacitors, however, don't feel hot or even warm after the struggle so I guess that's good(?). I bought new reed plates but...

    Air Compressor Problem

I'm not using an extension cord. The power cord and the circuit wiring is all good 12 gauge copper. The belt looks brand new. The motor runs smooth as silk other than that 80-110psi range. The pump also turns freely. The compressor holds air forever so no leaks there. Don't know where to...

    Air Compressor Problem

Hi all. Could use your help with diagnosing a new problem with my air compressor. I have a run-of-the-mill 1980s-ish Devillbis/ Craftsman air compressor with a 12 gallon (I think) tank and a 110v motor. About 2-3 years ago, I rebuilt most everything on it and it has been a good little...

Astro Pneumatic 78825 Bearing Press- I use good moly grease for the threads. Astro Pneumatic 78830 Rotor & Bearing Puller-Awesome...

    Smallest pry bar ?

Last year, I bought for the first time a 12” pry bar with the plastic handle (Tekton) and a heavy duty demolition screwdriver (Milwaukee). They’ve become two of those “How did I ever get along without these” type of tools. Short money, big return. I wouldn’t split hairs on any particular...

    Auxiliary Air Tank Question

I have a run-of-the-mill Craftsman/ Devilbiss air compressor with a 20 gallon tank. I want to expand my air tool collection for automotive work. Would adding a 20 gallon auxiliary air tank improve overall performance and be worth the money? Thanks. Rob

    Drill Press decisions...

Good choice with the Sprunger. You won’t regret it. You’ll find the restoration process to be both educational and quite enjoyable. Get yourself a good set of cobalt steel drill bits.

    Tools for home mechanic?

I suggest acquiring some tools that will get you out of a jam like thread chasers, ez-outs and a set of sockets designed to grip onto rounded bolt heads. A set of good cobalt drill bits is a worthy investment for any shop.

Help Me Choose - Tekton vs Icon

Recently acquired a complete set of Tekton vice grips and they are VERY nice and highly recommended. Equal or better than my old and well-worn USA Vice Grip brand locking pliers. Ordering from Tekton is as good as an Internet sale can be. Fastest free shipping I've seen. So far, so good.

Paint Coatings, What You Need To Know

Sorry guys for the monster paragraph. As soon as I hit the post button, I knew I screwed up. I also meant to post it in the general discussion section too. POR-15 is a different kind of animal so it takes a little different thought process to use and achieve good results. The best strategy...
