    Rebuilding Takubo floor jack

Any idea where I can find a suitable replacement seal? It measures 30mm I.D. and 40mm O.D. I don't see any spring, or sign of a channel for a spring. It has a stepped profile. The side profile looks like it flares out a bit, too, but maybe that's just deformation with age. I have no idea...

    Rebuilding Takubo floor jack

It's been awhile. I bought a big-*** 60mm socket and had zero luck with disassembly. It ended up sitting in a box on the floor until last week. I went at the end of the hydraulic cylinder with a propane torch. My IR thermometer read something like 350 degrees. After thoroughly heating the...

    Temporary paint booth ideas?

Here's a small booth I built several years ago to paint a motorcycle. It was mostly made from 2x2. I built each wall on the ground, then propped it up, screwed them together, wrapped the whole thing in polyethylene and then used 1x2 strips to clamp the polyethylene in place (staples ripped out...

    Shop-Vac Ametek Lamb Motor Conversion

The final product: It looks a bit less ugly in real life, since I'm significantly taller than the Shop-Vac! I should probably get around to finding some shorter 1/4-20 bolts that don't stick up as far...

    Shop-Vac Ametek Lamb Motor Conversion

Here's how I adapted an Ametek Lamb 116565-13, three-stage 5.7 inch motor to my "6 HP" SL14-600C Shop-Vac. Disclaimer: the welds are terrible because, as I found out later, I had a split in my argon gas line. I used 1/8" aluminum sheet, but you could just as easily make this from steel or...

How I moved my upright air compressor (rolling base)

Back in 2021, I restored a Quincy 310 compressor and mounted it on an Ingersoll Rand 60 gallon tank. I needed to be able to move it around while still having a stable base. Here's what I ended up making: The square base sits on used hockey pucks from eBay: The Harbor Freight casters...

Could a machinist copy this wrench to create a match

I would take a 5/16 impact socket, cut the end off, weld some steel strap of the appropriate thickness onto it, and grind/file everything to shape.

200 gallon Quincy compressor on Oregon Surplus auction

Auction closed at $197.50, somebody got a pretty sweet deal.

200 gallon Quincy compressor on Oregon Surplus auction

No idea if it's appropriate to post this here, but I just noticed this big Quincy compressor on the Oregon State Surplus site. Currently at $127 with 22 hours left on the auction. Needs a motor. https://m.publicsurplus.com/sms/state,or/auction/view?auc=2944224 I'm not sure which pump that...

    Quincy 310 unloader plumbing

The reasons I was planning on running a check valve are: 1) I already had one from my Surplus Center order. 2) I've never before used a compressor pump that didn't use one. 3) I don't know how reliably the Quincy 310 valves seal. Do you get a bit of carbon build-up and start leaking air? 4) I'm...

    Quincy 310 unloader plumbing

Hi, I picked up a Quincy 310 (ROC 21, L version) compressor pump awhile back and have been slowly getting it back into shape. It was the bare pump, so I'm assembling the rest of the compressor from Craigslist and Surplus Center. My question is how to plumb the unloader. My understanding is...

    Rebuilding Takubo floor jack

I don't think so. I thought there might be some rust or something, so I took a wire wheel to it and it seems like a pretty normal seam. The only odd thing is that it doesn't seem perfectly aligned with the cylinder. It's nice and flush on one side, but you can catch a fingernail on the other.

    Rebuilding Takubo floor jack

Uh oh, too late. I was surprised when they fell out onto my table, I was just trying to get the last of the hydraulic fluid out! By the time I caught them rolling away, I'd already lost track. Does the orientation of the hole matter? I noticed that the side hole seems to be at about the same...
