    Keeping the air dry

Thanks! This is helpful. Any suggestions for a cooler/drier? When I search I just get stuff for AC systems. I have a short hose from the compressor to the filter/dryer and another short hose from that to a 50' real of hose. The compressor requires oil and has a fan. It's not terribly humid here...

    Keeping the air dry

I have a Dewalt 30 gal 110v compressor with a Dewalt filter/dryer like this one. I added a drain hose. My problem is that the blue/pink desiccant pellets in the filter/dryer need to be removed and dried daily and go pink almost as soon as I turn on the compressor. Even worse is that the...

    Compressor specs questions

True. What the label actually says is "Made in the USA with global materials" which I take to mean that it was assembled here, but steel and other parts (maybe assembled pump, etc) came from elsewhere. I, at least hope, that is better than something completely manufactured in China, although...

    Compressor specs questions

Same one, same place, but it's now on sale for $599... or $918 at Lowes. Ideally I would save up and get a bigger, better one, but I'm limited to 120, so that only gets me so far. I've also built several cars without a compressor, so this is more of a want than a need. This one seems...

    Compressor specs questions

Painting is a distant maybe, and probably for one job. FWIW, this car was primered and painted with a 20 gal Craftsman in my 110 garage several houses ago. My box is maxed out, so I can't upgrade the garage electrics. An electrician quoted my $5000 to run 220 the 20 feet to my garage because it...

    Compressor specs questions

What are the specs required for a car hobbyist limited to 110-120v? I would need a compressor for sanding, grinding, cutting and maybe painting. I'm looking at a DeWalt on sale with: Air Delivery SCFM At 40 PSI 7.7 CFM Air Delivery SCFM At 90 PSI 6.2 CFM 2 HP 175 PSI max 30 gal 120v The...

    Wood or Metal shop

What's better, wood or metal garage? I may be in the position to build a garage soon (a position I never thought I'd be in), so my first question is building material. I've only ever worked in wooden garages, but every builder online seems to offer metal pole barn types. It seems like metal...

    Appalachian Hermit shack working garage

The doors are the best part of that garage! The runners need to be greased and some vegetation cleared away and they'll work great. Even if we tear this thing down we'll keep those doors!

    Appalachian Hermit shack working garage

Thanks everyone! The '59 was built by me with help from friends. My wife stitched up the white tuck & roll interior, and my friend painted it in a 1-car garage in WI. Others helped me with suspension, metal work, wiring, etc. It's going to need a lot of work. I can see light through the walls...

    Appalachian Hermit shack working garage

Here's my '59 Bel Air. It doesn't really need anything, but my next project will be a full custom and I'll need space. I may end up having to pull one out while I work on the other. I haven't even purchased that project yet, so I'm just dreaming ahead... IMG_1175 by Joe, on Flickr...

    Appalachian Hermit shack working garage

Part II The first thing it needs is some concrete work and a complete re-wire. My father-in-law was a contractor for many years and is now an architect, so he will be very helpful in this.. but lives 3.5 hours away. The wiring...is very old and scary. I wouldn't trust it to handle my welder...

    Appalachian Hermit shack working garage

Part I - My new shack About a year ago I moved from a house in Chicago with a 2 car garage AND a 2.5 car garage with a 2 car parking pad to a smallish town in the middle of PA to a small house with a garage so small my car wouldn't really fit (so we turned it into a play room for the kids). My...

Need tips for 2 car, apartment garage

It looks like you have plenty of room to me. My wife and I built a 51 Chevy in a garage that size with a 59 Chevy parked next to it. I lived in the ghetto and couldn't just push a car out into the alley when I needed more room. Those were big cars and yours are relatively smaller. You just...

    My garages

Thanks! Here's a couple shots of it in the sun. I stuck a lighter to one of those chunks of foam. It caught fire right away and kept burning. I don't think a spark could do it, but I think I'm going to have to know them down.
