That's awesome. I used to work in a circuit board factory and always envied the rework guys' sets, as they were a million times better than my $5 iron at home. I always thought it would be awesome to have one on my workbench for the one time a year I soldered something. :)
Lucky you.
I have the older USA made polished ones and they are my second favorite tool. Incredibly useful, and I mistreat them and they just keep on tickin' (pun intended). I would not find a non-pawled set nearly as useful. The pawled ones can get into lots of awkward spaces.
The oddest thing was the...
If I needed them right now, I would have paid $15. If I didn't need them right now, I would have paid $3.
Everyone overpays and makes mistakes from time to time. Better to have it happen on small stuff than several hundred dollar stuff.
To me, Craftsman is the best bang for the buck. However, I buy 90% of my tools used. I'm also a DIYer, not a professional.
Used stuff, dirt cheap, and lifetime warranty from a local store. It's hard to beat.
In my experience estate sales have better selection, but generally higher prices (still a lot less than new, though!).
Garage sales are a **** shoot, but the prices can be dirt cheap.
I have an older Thinkpad laptop in the garage and one in the basement. Paid $10 for each at garage sales. They are built like tanks and because they are old and cheap, I don't care if they get dirty. They also serve as MP3 players via 3.5mm to RCA converters.
iPad would be nice for the garage...
That's a pretty sweet box setup.
I would be torn about taking the decals off. It would look awesome without decals, but probably would affect the resale value.
