8 foot walls vs 9 ft

I opted for 10' ceilings on my about to be constructed new garage. I intend to install a 4-post lift to accommodate working and storing a Jag E-Type and Porsche 911. In the non-lift area, I will install loft storage to best utilize the otherwise unused ceiling height. This might be of interest...

    shot blasting the floor

Propane model? What is this? I thought all grinders would be electric? Home Depot tells me they have a unit for $80/day. John D.

Thanks for the input! Grinding is the way to go.

    shot blasting the floor

Before applying epoxy,it is generally recommended to either grind or shot blast the floor. I have a pressure blaster. What type of abrasive would be used to shot blast a concrete floor? Is this faster- less messy - than grinding the floor? I would like to hear from anyone who has done this...

    Epoxy durability

Christine, You recommend adding a clear coat. In the larger sense, I would not question doing this. However, I am building a new 23 x 32 garage + tools chest + Bendpak lift+ new driveway, etc. In the context of trying to keep costs in line, what is the real value added benefit of clear given...

My Epoxy-Coat floor one year later

Great floor. What kind of hard use has this floor seen? Have you used jack stands, floor jacks, dropped tools, etc. Has anyone had an epoxy floor with a few years of hard service that can give us a sense of durability over time? John D.

    Epoxy durability

I want to put some type of finish to minimize/eliminate oil, etc. stains. Epoxy seems the best given that VCT, ceramic tiles, etc. probably won't hold up to jack stands and rolling a 4 post lift around the floor.

    Epoxy durability

I am shortly going to construct a new garage -23 x 32- with radiant floor heating. I will be installing a 4 post Bendpak lift that I want to be able to move about with the roller option. I will also be using a floor jack and jack stands occasionally. I am certain that there will be some spills...

    Concrete Grinding

It seems that it is preferable to grind my new concrete floor before applying epoxy. The single disc or twin disc rental unit weighs in the 250lb category while handheld units are only about 20lbs. I don't have a way to transport the large units to my garage. Has anyone used a handheld unit with...

    Need help with lighting

Great project. Please post pictures. I am planning a 23 x 32 garage build this Spring with 10' ceilings and a 4 post lift. Let me know how the lighting turns out. John D.

    Garage Epoxy Questions

Thanks Christine. It seems an acid bath would be easier then a diamond grind. From what I have read, the key to successfully applying epoxy is based on good surface preparation. Does it matter whether I us acid prep or diamond grind on an unsealed surface? John D.

    Garage Epoxy Questions

Christine, I will have a new garage built in the next couple of months. I am contemplating using epoxy on the floor. If I ask the contractor to not seal the concrete, should I still grind the floor before applying the epoxy? John D.

    Garage Epoxy Questions

One concern-- I have heard if your concrete floor has been sealed, you need to grind it not just use an acid wash. I would like to hear what LegacyIndustrial and Rugerlady have to say about this as I am also contemplating an epoxy floor. The concrete has not yet been poured. Should I tell the...

    Radiant Heat estimate

The plans call for the Pex to be attached to the mesh and then elevate the mesh with chairs to raise the pex to the mid-level of the 4" slab. This will allow for a 1" cut to be made to the slab and avoid cutting the Pex. I will install a four post lift as well. I'm not sure if it is required but...

    Radiant Heat estimate

The $5800 price includes: (1) the cost of the Pex and installing it (3 loops); (2) the cost of the Quietside boiler and (3) the miscellaneous hookup including manifolds, wiring, vent, gas pipe, etc. Grading and pouring the slab are separate costs. I had given thought to 'pausing' the contract...
