    Carriage Doors Built from Scratch

Ready to start on a set of 7 X 9 carriage house doors. We cannot find suggested allowances for movement, etc. In other words the doors should be built somewhat smaller than the actual opening - but what is a reasonable amount?? Hinges will be flush mounted and we are following the...

    Carriage Doors Built from Scratch

Wow - just what I was looking for and the descriptions and insight helped considerably. We are drawing up plans currently and since we live in Indiana are on a time crucial track to get these finished. One question - when I leave the forum I have a hard time coming back to a specific post - any...

    incoming/outgoing pex tubing

I'm unclear I thought they were all reverse return - my question was simply the order they return should it be for a three run system Out,Out, Out & In, In, IN or should it be Out, IN - Out, IN, - Out, IN just trying to lay out the order correctly and I've seen it done both ways - I'm confused

    incoming/outgoing pex tubing

No, I'm referring to the manifold should it be out 1, In 1, Out 2, In 2, Out 3, In 3, or should it be Out 1, Out 2, Out 3 and then In 3, In 2 In 1

    Rebar lift - 1"

Any suggestions on how to lift rebar 1" so that the pex system will be at the optimum height in a 4" cement slab. Contractor suggested stones (sounded too inconsistent to me) and the rebar chairs are too high. If we could do this inexpensively it would be great!

    Insulation factor R25?

I keep reading posts that specify having a factor of R25 under a hydronic heating system floor. How exactly is this achieved. The $35 dollar range polystyrene carries an R10? Am I missing something here?:headscrat

what are actual radiant heat costs

I do have two rooms now with electric radiant heat in the floor. Yes they are very cozy but also when turned on my electric bill jumps significantly. I understand that the hydronic radiation in the floor is different - but suspect that the warmth will be quite similar. Just looking for an...

what are actual radiant heat costs

Solar to run the radiant floor? How exactly does that work - do you need the boiler as well or is heat storage for the solar available. How many panels to maintain the floor?

what are actual radiant heat costs

We're looking at radiant heat costs for start up (sticker shock to state the least) but nowhere have we seen actual operating costs when compared to gas forced air, radiant tubes, etc. Given it is a comfortable heat, has a huge set up price, but is there any benefit in the operating costs when...
