    Fall Through Winter Cost Thread

udas 100 for 1200 sq ft shop, open doors in minus 15 and it would heat back up in minutes. Awesome heater, sealed combustion safest and cleanest way to go.

    Sterling vs Reznor

love my udas 100, I used to run it only when I worked out there, but I was over the subzero stuff and just set it at 68 and let it run all winter. - best money I ever spend cause I would use my shop a lot more. One complaint about the UDAS is it made a crazy vibrating racket as the heat...

Best garage door openers for the money?

love my chamberlin ultra queit blue belt drive, it slows down at the beggining and end and sounds really nice. I have battery back up on mine, which is code where I live.

Replacing outlets: which ones to buy?

Screw terminals only is my suggestion with the wire looped in the correct direction or screw clamps. I have fixed hundreds or more receptacles that have come loose from the push in connections. They can short many years down the road and weird things like your wife saying the TV only works...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Great thread, thank you! My shop is 30 x 40 with 4 evenly spaced rows of 3 fixtures on each row, each fixture is 8 feet consisting of 4-4' floursecents. It works perfectly for me. That would be a total of 48 bulbs

    Skylight tubes and roofing

I am going to put in some rigid skylight tubes on the roof and I'm curious about installing them. The instructions and videos online say to remove all the shingles to place the skylight tube down on the roof and then replace the shingles. I have always just slipped the flashing under the upper...

    Replacing dead receptacles

I always test the outlet with a contact tester - I dont' trust the inductive testers. And when all the power is off, I quickly brush my hand aganist the outlet rather than grab it directly to make sure before I grab it. I never trust that an outlet is turned off because so many older circuits...

    Rough In Question

I usually just put it all together and ask for a final at rough in for smaller jobs like a garage with < 20 receptacles/lights and then if drywall ever gets done, just remove the receptacles/lights 5 min before drywall- I hate stressing about trying to finish things before a final and just want...

    new Square D panel

I have put these in. I love them, easy, clean and have not had any problems. The only irritating part is the cheapskates make you buy a ground bar seperate. In my shop and nothing nuisance trips on DFCIs in that panel.

    Thermostat Location

I went through this on my 30x40 shop, I tested the t-stat on a 60 foot piece of wire all over the shop before permanently wiring it in and I could honestly not tell the difference at all no matter where i put it, 40 feet from the heat by the door to the frozen wasteland was the same as sticking...

    60 Outlets

Agreed, the push in systems are horrid, I have read that babies have been burned to death from arc fires resulting from their use. It's disgusting that anyone actually uses them and everyone admits to me that they don't use them, but I always see them backstabbed, so someone is lying. There...

    Thermostat for garage

I have a honeywell WIFI - about $100, I really like their software, it not only allows me to use my phone or computer to control my shop, but it sends me an email if there is a problem.
