    There is some kind of residue on the surface that can be scraped down but the paint is gone underneath. Upon closer inspection, it does look like some kind of bore holes in the spots in question. There are some soft spots in the immediate area. Updated photo attached Thanks again all-

    Looks good! Did you do that on multiple walls?...One thing I'm trying to consider is how to maintain consistent spacing on the rails so that the components can be moved from one wall to another (i.e. in the case of a component that hangs on two or more cleats)
