How many feel you're in a league of your own in your hood?

Yeldogt and Ovilla are spot-on and it more succinctly. Hard to say how many of neighbors do their own repairs. I will say that people who had a dad or other mentor show them the ropes should feel fortunate they had that guidance and help. My parents separated when I was young and while he was...

Nomination for "Worst Automotive Maintenance Feature Ever"

2008 Chevy Malibu headlights. Pop plastic plugs in the wheel well to expose some screws, then basically take the front end off to get the light house out. I watched a few Youtube videos -- otherwise I wouldn't have known where to start. On the other hand, my Volvo, you open the hood, pull out...

    Non Name-Brand LED Bulbs

I only use Cree LEDs. IMO, they have the best soft/warm white color rendition for indoor use. (I also use floods outdoors.) I did have one bulb fail last year. I took a photo of the serial numbers and emailed the company. They sent me a replacement.

    Duct tape to the rescue

25 years ago I was working for an American rock band. We were flying from Rio de Janeiro to Los Angeles. During the flight an older Brazilian gentleman had some kind of medical/emotional episode and started trying to open the doors at 30,000 feet. The flight crew was able to restrain him for a...

    3 car plus tandem

What a great space. Is that a sliding, lighted magnifier on the back wall? I could use one of those.

    GLTHFJ60's Garage Expansion, Phase 1

It’s a Rinnai RL75. My service is from PSNC. I’m on the budgeted plan, so my bill is averaged out so I pay the same amount each month. For the first three years I paid $56 a month, but when I had my annual recalculation back in July it dropped to $38/mo. I am in NW Raleigh, so I assume you’d...

    GLTHFJ60's Garage Expansion, Phase 1

Good looking project. As someone without in-depth knowledge of building techniques, I appreciate when folks point out errors they find when working on their homes. I haven't seen the tankless water heater brought up in a few pages, but I had one installed four years ago and I am happy with...

    Hanging shelf for air compressor

I understand. When I bought the place, my home inspector said that was too much dead load, so the homeowner put in a bunch of posts and braces. I don't have anything very heavy up there, so my builder/carpenter guy said a pair of posts would be fine if I was concerned. I am a cautious person...

    Hanging shelf for air compressor

Sounds like you are talking about something like this? Previous owner of my house put this up.

    In Ceiling Speakers....how many?

Haha, I still have my college 3-way speakers, too.... with replaced woofers. I have mine up on shelves also, but I am not as happy with the sound, so I will probably put them back on the floor in the corner so I can get more low end from the boundary effect.

    In Ceiling Speakers....how many?

Is the OP dead-set on ceiling speakers? There are number of other options that might work. I use a pair of 3-way speakers and an old receiver in my garage -- picked them up through craigslist. A pair of 2-way bookshelf speakers would also do the trick. In my kitchen, I use a three piece...

    Scott's Texas Haven - 34x28 Attached

Great garage. Regarding windows, have you considered solar screens? They are a big help and can be removed if you want some more sunlight in the winter. Also gives you excellent privacy in the daytime. Just a thought.

    Morbid thoughts

I find de-cluttering to be an ongoing process. The older I get (50) the easier it is to let go of stuff I no longer want, use or need. I've sold off a a fair number of collectables from my childhood.(Corgi, Matchbox) Have more to go. I look at some of these things that have been kicking around...

    Cabinet Conundrum

Patrick, Insulating and adding drywall isn't difficult. Insulation, add add a vapor barrier and hang the drywall. There's a gazillion youtube videos on taping and mudding. I actually enjoyed the challenge and learning how to do it. The beauty (at least for me) is that you can take your time...
