Welding can be very dangerous if you do not know what you're doing. I agree to the comment about going to a community college and taking a basic course. In theory yeah, but once you add up all variables it's a much better approach with a 1/2". Think of rust, weather, not fully charged battery, if you had an extension on.. Etc.

You should use a 1/2 drive impact for lugnuts. That doesn't even make sense to use a 3/8. Right tool for the right job man.
