is this switch broken, or is my understanding?

Argh. I went out and tested continuity again, and when I check on the screws between one pair of terminals I don't get anything. If I take the screws out and put the probe down in there I do get continuity, which is how I was initially testing it. So I guess I got a marginal switch...

is this switch broken, or is my understanding?

OK, I see what you're saying. I'll check that tomorrow, but to the point somebody else made, I did verify continuity between each in and out with the switch closed, so it seems like the switch is actually closing. In your scenario, if I test with the motor legs disconnected I should see 120V...

is this switch broken, or is my understanding?

I missed this in the product description before: "40 Amp, 600V, Double-Pole, Single Phase AC Manual Motor Controller, Suitable as Motor Disconnect, Toggle, Industrial Grade, Non-Grounding, Back & Side Wiring, - Black" What is the implication of that? EDIT: And, by the way, that diagram I...

is this switch broken, or is my understanding?

It is. I left that post open for now, but I did verify that I'm not getting 240V out of the disconnect, so I think that's the problem.. It's not wired in right now, I took it out to see if there was something I was missing.

is this switch broken, or is my understanding?

Correct, it's not. The thing about this switch is that it doesn't have a ground lug, so I mounted it in a metal box and grounded that (the switch does have a metal face); I ran into an electrician when I was picking up the mounting stuff and he agreed that that was a reasonable thing to do...

is this switch broken, or is my understanding?

I have this motor disconnect that isn't working the way I expect it to. If I measure voltage across red and black on the input side, I get 240V. If I measure voltage across red and black on the motor side, with the switch closed, I get 0. If I measure voltage between red and ground and black...

drained & rewired champion compressor, now it won't start

I have a 230V/1P Champion compressor that was working fine until yesterday when I drained the tank, now it won't start. I did drain it to wire in a motor disconnect (I had previously just been using the breaker), but that all looks fine. I have the two hot legs wired to L1 and L2 in the panel...

best tool chest on a budget?

I ended up going with this Husky. I had to order it because in the stores they only sell it in combination with a topbox, but it felt solid and the drawers were pretty smooth. I really like this particular drawer configuration, it should be perfect for what I need. It's kind of tall, but so...

best tool chest on a budget?

I ran across this Milwaukee that I really like the looks of. It looks like it might be on closeout at HD and they don't have one in my area, although it says I can still get one. Anybody seen/used one? Also, I didn't realize that my links were broken; I thought the "http://" that popped up...

best tool chest on a budget?

A friend has the 46" HD mobile workbench, he used it in a professional shop and was happy with it, but I'm afraid that compared to the SO it's going to be a letdown. Probably what I'll end up doing is putting stuff I use less frequently in whatever I end up going with and keeping the everyday...

best tool chest on a budget?

I thought for sure this would have been covered on here before, but I couldn't find anything with a search. Anyway, I desperately need some more tool storage. I've currently got a Snap-On five drawer roller that I love, but more Snap-On or the like isn't in the budget right now, not even what...

    I need a low profile jack ....

Yeah, jack stands are the way to go. I've used them on gravel with a piece of plywood underneath cut big enough to provide a platform for the jack stand. I'll do tires and brakes that way, but I wouldn't get underneath it (it's stable, but I'm pretty conservative when it comes to having a car...

anybody use graymills aquatene gm330 in a parts washer?

Thanks. I found some aquarium heaters for pretty cheap that should handle this size tank comfortably, but they only go up to 93*. Any idea if that would be enough?

anybody use graymills aquatene gm330 in a parts washer?

I've got a 6 1/2 gallon parts washer from HF with a polyethylene body and tank that I bought a while back and am just now getting set up (it looks like they don't sell it anymore, but it's the one in this video). It specifically says to only use water-based solutions, not mineral spirits or...

    compressor leak or expected behavior?

I was trying to avoid soaping up all of the connections straight away, but I don't know why I didn't think about turning off the drain to see what happened then. It may all be moot, though, as when I went back out tonight and it was a little quieter I found a small leak somewhere around the...
