    Low odor parts washer

Time to flush & refill my washer. Using mineral spirits now and tired of the odors. How does PSC1000 compare to low odor mineral spirits for odors?

    Starting over with parts washer

My old 20 gal pump is shot, replacement pumps won't fit without hassle, switch is shot, and I'm tired of the fumes. Time for a shiny new tool in the shop! So now I think I'm going with water based cleaner since I'm only really cleaning dirt bike parts and really light soils. With a water...

    Compressor walking away

I’m told they should not be bolted down. The vibrations weaken the welds and the feet break off the tank. All is good now with new bearings.

    Compressor walking away

Yes and if the pulleys are not perfectly parallel, the motor pulley gets really hot.

    Compressor walking away

Yep, got the bearings replaced and that fixed it! $37 for the win!

    Compressor walking away

I've got a big stand up compressor with 240V motor running it. Recently it started vibrating and walking away (not bolted to the floor). Also the motor pulley was too hot to touch. I thought it might have just been the extreme cold, although with the heated shop, probably not below freezing...

Water and mineral spirits in washer?

Explain to me how having water in the bottom of my parts washer keeps the solvent cleaner. I’m replacing my pump tomorrow and adding spirits so maybe I’ll add water instead. Can I just pour the water in and it sinks to the bottom? Or do I have to drain and start over?

Need new hex bit socket set

I need both a hex bit socket set and a torx bit socket set. Small sizes for home motorcycle work. Won't step foot in Harbor Freight, Sears is going away. Northern Tool is convenient. What is a reasonably inexpensive but good quality brand for this type of tool?

    Leaking air lines

I have my compressor located in a storage room, and "plumbed" it to my ceiling hung hose reel throught the attic with 1/2" Goodyear air hose. I have a slow leak somewhere as I turn the compressor off when not in the shop and if I forget to turn off the line from the tank, it will drain down...

Adding utility sink with no water supply to garage.

I don’t have running water to my Detached shop nor would I want to trench a line with all concrete in the way. I am thinking through what it might take just to add a sink for handwashing. Water supply could maybe be a 55 gallon drum, with an on-demand water heater. Has anybody done this?

    Crack sealer

I've got a good 1/2" crack across my floor that really never changes but bothers my wife so I'm tasked with filling it. What should I use for such a large crack that will expand and contract seasonally? Fill it with foam backer first? If so, how deep should I put the foam so I get a good seal...

    Fluorescent reflectors

When I put my lights in, I just bought plain jane fixtures without reflectors, but now I want reflectors. Does anyone know a source for reasonably priced reflectors?

    PTAC vs PTHP vs ??

We're converting a screenroom to a sunroom and deciding about heating. Does anyone have experience with PTAC vs PTHP or just using electric baseboard (which would be silent)?

    New well question

Not really a garage question but there is so much knowledge here I thought I would throw this out. I need a new well drilled at my house. The existing casing is cracked and well is pumping lots of sand. Besides the house, we do have an lawn irrigation system. The pump and expansion tank I...
