Finishing the top of the workbench

This is what I do too, here is a new bench that I recently built this way (part way through the build)…

Mechanics: Tips and tricks you've learned

I’ve just filled that cavity with grease from a grease gun and then whack an appropriately sized bolt or rod. I think that grease is probably a less compressible/more effective material to use than bread! But I guess if you need to get that pilot bushing out and only have your sandwich...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Built some badly needed shelves to get some stored parts and bins off of the floor. Changed the oil for the first time in my pickup... getting the factory oil filter off was a challenge. Not much room for a wrench and tight as hell. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Sump Pumps

I took the expensive and risky path to eventually adopt this theory too. My septic outlet is about 6’ above the floor in my finished basement, so there is a sewage sump and pump for everything that originates down there. Failed pump means potential backup into finished space, so high-stakes...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Thanks very much! Totally agree on the bumpers. I never really liked the look of the US-mandated “park bench” bumpers on the later SL’s (1974-1989) so bided my time until an earlier 1972-1973 came up for sale with the smaller bumpers before buying mine. I found it interesting that many...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

What did you do "IN" your garage today? Yeah, I really hate mice in the shop and the damage that they can cause. I don’t get too many anymore as I’ve sealed up the building pretty well over time, but don’t want to take the risk if they would happen to get in. The bubble is fully...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

That’s a fair point. I suppose that a couple of moving blankets could be left on the car as an intermediate barrier “just in case” of a deflation. Besides the inherent physical protection of the bubble, I really love not having to worry about Mickey and Minnie taking up residence in my car...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Since Minnesota’s fall season was abruptly cut short by record early snowfall and now our roads are all full of salt, today my ‘73 Mercedes 450SL got an oil change, a wash, and went into her bubble for a long winters nap. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    OH10-X Two Post

I have the same lift. It works normally on most of my vehicles. For the small cars I have used hockey pucks on the main arms to pick up at the pinch weld lift points. Same devil on my shoulder, I guess, but its worked just fine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

2 post - Symmetric or Asymmetic?

I have the Atlas 10X tall/wide and it has been rock solid for everything I’ve thrown at it, including my full size crew/long box (6.4’) Ram 1500, though not a 3500. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Heads up on a lift problem

Definitely a good idea. Might as well put an outlet for a welder in at the same time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Whats your opinion on skylight panels for metal building?

It wasn’t terribly expensive to add the “eavelite”. The builder charged $3.77/LF for material and 0.02 labor hrs per LF. I put our 15kW solar system on the pole building instead of our home to avoid shade and re-roofing risks down the road. Most of the electricity generated actually supplies...

Whats your opinion on skylight panels for metal building?

I went with polycarbonate at the top of the side walls (the building is not climate controlled). Wouldn’t be nearly as nice without all of that natural light. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Important note to self: next time around, have the builder insulate the roof from the get-go. It’s amazing how much heat is radiated through a bare metal roof on a sunny day. Hopefully today’s project will cut down on that quite a bit. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Anyone know anything about electric fences?

I’ve had insulators shorted to posts by bird droppings more than once. Can usually hear the arcing when you get close enough. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
