New keys out of old keys

Former locksmith here. Hit up a local locksmith for a duplicate. I used to have an ITL 9000 and used a web service called Blackhawk. Punch in a couple numbers and the ITL cuts a new key to factory depths. Those key blanks are common.

    Metal Detector For Reclaimed Wood

Metal detecting is my serious hobby with several grand in machines and hundreds of hours of experience. For what you are wanting to do a very basic machine will do. Harbor Freight has a basic machine that is no frills, but works well. The Bounty Hunter Tracker is another super basic machine...

Which DustBuster Hand Vac do you use?

I have the Milwaukee M12 hand vac. It works well for what it's designed for and has a pretty big bin for holding dirt. It's not a shop vac, but for quick pick up it works great.

    I need a compact driver

I vote for the Bosch as well. I have the PS21 and it works great. Really light weight when compared to the Milwaukee M12 offering. I own both the Bosch and the Milwaukee, I use the Bosch more as it is lighter and easier to carry around in my tool bag.

    Drilling with Dewalt impact

I use my Milwaukee impact for drilling holes in wood using spade bits. It really shines when using 3/4"+ sized bits to quickly bore through framing members. I bought a set of Bosch Daredevil spade bits for my last bathroom complete remodel, I really like them. I wouldn't use the impact for...

Need drill press, have no money - how small & cheap is TOO small & cheap?

I have the lower priced Harbor Freight bench top drill press and have had good luck with it. Granted it has its limitations, but for drilling smaller holes in wood and in soft metal it's nice to have around. One thing the lady at the counter did ask when I bought it was that if I was planning...

Help me pick a Ridgid Shop Vacuum

I have the 14 gallon WD1450 model and really like it. For a shop vac, it's pretty quiet too. The 2.5 diameter hose is a huge plus, doesn't clog up as easily. I've had mine for a couple years now, used on a dry walling project and a flooded basement, worked like a charm every time.

what's your experience buying snap-on stuff on ebay?

I once bought a Snap On mini pick and awl soft handled set in like new condition for a decent price. When it got then they were like new but smelled like an ashtray. Even my hands smelled when I handled them. Left then out in the sun for a couple of days and cleaned then with citrus cleaner to...

    Vise I scored for free

Hello everyone, I've been reading this forum for a long time, what a great forum. Anyway I saved this Ridgid vise before it was thrown into the dumpster at work. Can anyone give me an idea how old it is? I've been wanting a good vise for sometime, just wasn't ready to throw down the cash for...

    Not Happy with Klein Screwdrivers

I purchased a set by GearWrench for around $65 and really like them. They came in a plastic tray, kinda thin, but I sprayed expanding foam on the back to sturdy up the tray. I'm just a homeowner who does my work around the house. I like them as much as my Wiha screwdrivers I use at work.

    Can't Believe This One

Long time listener, first time caller. I have heard this before. I have a Milwaukee M18 drill at home that I purchased from Home Depot. I have the same drill at work that was purchased at Graingers, an industrial supply house. I'll take a look and the two and put them in a scale to try to...
