    MRCOOL - Not Cool

Just found this company, Ideal-Air, that also has a line of DIY mini-splits. Looks like they are slightly higher priced than Mr. Cool. No idea of their quality, just throwing this out there as another option.

    MRCOOL - Not Cool

Most mini-splits are also heat pumps. I just looked at the sharkaire units and they have some that are AC and heat pumps.

    MRCOOL - Not Cool

Check out SharkAir, their units come precharged but you still need to pull the vacuum on the line set. http://sharkaire.com/ Here's my thread on them. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=397524 Here's a start to finish install of a sharkaire unit: still trying to decide...

    Did you OSB?

what thickness OSB is everyone using? I'll be starting to put it up soon and I'm looking at the 2 main thicknesses available. 7/16 and 19/32 seem to be most common for straight edge, and 23/32 for tongue and groove. Thanks.

    Sharkaire mini-split

Hey all, yet another mini-split thread :) I just stumbled upon this brand/unit: Sharkaire MS For this 24k unit, it's only about $100 more than the 18k MrCool DIY from Costco. Here is a video showing the installation of the Sharkaire (not mine): Looks to me like the only difference on the...

    electricity to shop

When I built my shop I talked to electricians and called my POCO to get my options. I was in a similar situation, panel full, but I had nothing to swap out. What I went with was an upgraded service at the meter, from 200 to just under 400. The POCO verified the transformer feeding my house...

    Shed/Cabin ceiling insulation

Both, summer temps 100* with high humidity. Winter temps (deer season) at below freezing. Did the first winter without insulation and we couldn't keep it warm enough in the cabin, but it was better than the pop-up camper used the previous year! For heating we use either a wood stove or...

    Shed/Cabin ceiling insulation

readhead, it's sitting on blocks about 12" off the ground, but yes, it's a moisture issue. Here in the midsouth we have hot humid summers. Any ideas on how to best ventilate or at least mitigate the moisture issues?

    Shed/Cabin ceiling insulation

I have a 14x20 shed that is used as a camping/hunting cabin. So I put insulation in, and I'm guessing I did something drastically wrong because now in the late summer/early fall (when we want to use the cabin the most) everything inside becomes moldy and covered in gunk. The shed is the...

    Inherited Reed vice

Yup, after cleaning it up a bit, I can see that it's a 19 and not an 18. Got the vice apart and ready to be cleaned up. If I get a chance this weekend I'll work on it, if not, it will be next week.

    Inherited Reed vice

I'm digging through the "Vise Repair 101" thread. I'm open to suggestions. I have BLO for my woodworking that I do.

    Inherited Reed vice

Yes, looking at the vice again this morning, the crud around the 1912 makes it look like 1812. Planning on just cleaning up a bit of the surface rust, maybe disassemble and clean/lube everything.
