I just had my floors polished. It may not look as pretty as a coating, but it should be pretty impervious. Only downside is that it is dangerous as hell when it's wet!

I think what I'll do is make sure I have enough saved up to pour the concrete and get up the basic structure. The other reason I like this approach is that I am able to save money doing work myself, instead of having to finance a contractor to do it all. I've been using borrowed garage space...

I like your approach. I'd love to pay to lay the concrete, then do as much of the work myself as possible. How long did it take you to stand up the structure? How much longer for the finish work?
