I thought I'd add some info I dug up on passive cooling.
I'm thinking that by incorporating as many passive elements as possible into my proposed building I will reduce my total cooling load requirements.
I'd really like to do without mechanical cooling and **** it up for the few summer days...
I should elaborate a little on the proposed building.
It'll likely be a pole barn or steel building.
I have yet to detemine width as I'm investigating the most cost effective roof truss and open span floor joist. For discussion sake I'll say 32 feet.
The building will either be a...
I'm in the investigative stages for a house/shop build that will be enclosed in a single building.
Im looking very closely at radiant in floor slab for the ground floor and radiant in floor (possibly warmboard.com product) for the second floor living space.
Heat inputs are still up for grabs...
I'm in the investigative stages for my house/garage build that will hopefully occur within the next year.
I'm a car guy and will be working on Mustangs and older Volvos, maybe a few 240z's.
I also have a Mercedes Sprinter that weighs in around 5000 pounds but will be getting heavier as I kit...
I've just moved into a house with a poor quality concrete floor in the basement. If this were a prison escape movie it'd be just what the cons were looking for, soft, and dusty good for tunneling out with a spoon. The house was built around 1958 and I suspect the basement was a bad batch of...
I'm curious if raising the temperature of water/glycol exiting the evacuated tubes before then sending to a large tank/heat storage unit has any merit.
I came accross this DIY solar concentrator which I'm speculating could further raise the temperature of the output of the evacuated tube...
That was a helpful article for me,as were the links to other articles within it. I especially liked the thermostatically controlled, finned tube system for excess heat dump described in one of the linked articles.
Looks like having a really big tank for heat storage will maximize the...
I have a wood shop and produce a decent amount of hardwood sawdust. I thought maybe I could make my own pelletes but I haven't been able to find much decent info on pelletizing. I also generate a good amount of hardwood off cuts that would make for a good boiler feed.
Is pelltizing an...
I did some quick searching and found these threads to be helpful to me.
From what I gather grinding as a prep is the preferred method prior to applying whichever epoxy product is chosen.
I'm wondering if it's possible to have the concrete surface textured at the time of pour in order to skip...
I'm in the very early stages of a garage (as in still planning) and am interested in the do's and don't of epoxy over new installs.
Please update this thread with links to the other relevant threads. I'll do the same.
Is there a sticky with epoxy, sealing, coating info?
