Anyone else find the Harbor Freight Inside Track Club to be a waste?

I know your post is old, but the link you shared is excellent. Thanks. It allows you to see the ITC coupons so one can decide if it's worth the price of membership before buying.

    220v 40 amp to 15amp

Thank you for explaining the welder label requirements. So I assume that I'm up to code with the 6-50p on the 40 amp circuit without any special markings? If yes, I'll peal the label off.

    220v 40 amp to 15amp

If that's from the manual of the Rigid saw sold at HD, it's the exact same one I plan on buying. I've read and saw YouTube videos that say the saw runs noticeably better and cooler on 240v vs. 120. I'm curious about that myself.

    220v 40 amp to 15amp

As another person commented, you are allowed to put a 50amp receptacle on a 40 amp circuit. It's what I just did. I believe you have to label it as such..for example "Welder Only". A lot of the Harbor Freight Welders have a 6-50p plugs in their 240v welders. The one I'm getting only draws 26...

    THHN, stranded or solid ?

Hi Gary, I think your two options are either romex run through the walls or THHN run through PVC or metal conduit. I just ran a 40 amp sub panel to my garage. I used about 30' of left over 8-3 romex from the main panel to my garage wall. From there I put a junction box changing over to 4...

    Matco financing

Dr Baker, I saw you posted the same advice almost at the same time I did. I agree with you completely. I'm assuming that the original poster is a younger gentleman. I'm hoping that he doesn't get stuck in the same trap so many get trapped in. I made stupid mistakes when I was younger. I...

    Matco financing

My 2 cents. If you can't afford to pay cash for a tool box, you can't afford it. Same goes with car financing...or anything that depreciates in value. People that finance everything are destined to remain poor. There are too many people driving around in $40k cars that should be driving a...

    Subpanel brand reccomendations

I'm glad I read this thread. Makes me feel better about the equipment I purchased. My main panel is a 200 amp Eaton CH. My sub is a Square D QO. When I went to buy the breakers for my garage subpanel, I was wondering why the CH and QO double pole breakers were about $10 more than the other...

Minimum clearance between subpanel and receptacles?

DW1, That makes sense about the fumes and why it would be especially important for commercial garages. I was only thinking about water issues. Thanks!

Minimum clearance between subpanel and receptacles?

Thank you Pattenp! The chart you uploaded is very helpful. I'm going to eventually be putting in switches for additional lighting, as well as more receptacles - so I will definitely follow those guidelines. One more quick question for the group: I have about 8-10 extra feet of the 8/3...

Minimum clearance between subpanel and receptacles?

TFI, Thank you for your reply! That's what I was hoping. Regarding the height of the connection box. The reason I positioned it only 12" from the garage floor is that I was able to avoid having to drill a hole through the the band joist. Plus there's a lot of plumbing and other electrical...

Minimum clearance between subpanel and receptacles?

Hello, I just wired a 40 amp sub panel (rated for 125 amp) in my attached garage using 8-3 romex I had left over in my basement ceiling. The romex enters my garage to a box with cover plate where I connect to #8 thhn wires (using those huge blue wire nuts). The thhn wires run through 3/4" pvc...

    240 receptacle recommendation

Norcal, thank you for your reply. That's a good suggestion, I hadn't previously considered. Then I could wire possibly two 240 outlets (15 amp and 20) amp and an extra 120v 20amp circuit from the sub. Thank you!

    240 receptacle recommendation

Hello, My house was previously wired for a hot tub with 8-3 romex off a 50 amp breaker. Based on what I read, #8 should not be on a circuit higher than 40 amps. There is no longer a hot tub and the wire is coiled in the drop ceiling of my basement. I want to use this wire to bring a 240 volt...
