Hey guys I'm in desperate need of a bigger box my small kobalt and roll cart are fyll. I got approved through matco but really don't have the urge to buy new I think there overpriced but it might be my only option or should I try to wait it out and hope he gets a trade in soon? How many guys have financed a box through matco and would you do it again?

It'd be a great box, if you don't want to spend the you should check out what U.S. general has to offer. They are cheap enough and built tough. Thick metal, ball bearing sliders. I have the 5 drawer cart and am very happy with the product.

Even if you have to buy another box in 10-15 years, it's still probably cheaper than the ridiculously priced tool truck boxes.

Yes, exactly the point I would make here. The HF boxes are quite good for the price. I have both, I feel the 44" is a bit better built than the 56". It's proven to be a pretty tough box ,the way I use mine.

A new record! 6 minutes before the Harbor Frieght boxes!!!!

I would look at the total cost this box will run you, and how long you plan on keeping it. The interest can really add up, and so will the dislike you have for the box if you outgrow it in a year.

I would put they payments aside for a few months, and then see what can you find used, maybe a good deal will come up by then. Don't make a choice when it seems like you have no options, there always is if you step away and give it another look. The Tool guys will always have a box "On a super smoking deal, you'll never see this price again", so be patient and make sure the cost of ownership is within reason.

If you have to finance a toolbox maybe you should looking into finding or training for a better paying career. That or perhaps look into a more affordable box.

Just my opinion.

Well I had planned on buying used from a friend but he recently switched companies and is now back in a shop and needs his box I would much rather buy used but there isn't not a lot of used boxes in craigslist in my area

What kind of work or is it just a hobby?
It's for work I'm a diesel tech

Maybe your right but if my tools are getting stolen cause there laying out cause I have no more room it's gonna cost me more money everybody starts at the bottom hopefully I will have tons of cash one day laying around and I donthave to take up your time thanks

Agreed interest ***** but if I can double payments and pay a little more for financing I'm fine with it. This is gonna be a 4500-5000 box I'm not financing 20 grand here

Even if you buy a new one every 5 years it'd be 50 years before you even came close to a new Matco box money wise.

Never financed through the tool companies but I would wait it out and shop around. Like others have said put up a few months worth of payments. You never know what will come along. In the meantime look for ways to make what you have work. Maybe some type of footlocker but to put larger, less used items in or take some of them home. I won't talk about the quality or lack thereof of any particular brand but you do need to weight the pros and cons. I am not sure what your main goal is, use it to make money or collect nice tool boxes. Find one that does what you need it to and forget the name brand.

if there is any doubt in your mind about financing a box, :willy_nil

then you probably shouldnt do it.

i financed all my NEW toolbox purchases off a tool truck
used (truck brand) boxes were bought on a truck account.

i dont regret my purchases,
i've only sold off 2 truck brand boxes that i bought in the past 30 years.

It's gonna be for work don't care brand or color really mainly just draw layout I would prefer to by used but not against anew one
Even lf you had to make a day trip I would look for a used one. There are a lot of nice boxes out there.
There is I have seen some in Dallas Oklahoma City but the ones that are good deals go quick

oil field is picking back up and everyone in midland sells things at retail cause they know a lot of people make money I was down there for 2 years before moving up here to be closer to my family

I hate to add to the HF crowd, but a 44" box is under $400 after tax. Buy a 44" and use it while you put some money in the bank and buy a nicer bkx down the road if you need it. Worst case scenario is you sell the 44" and lose $150.

If it is the money then ask your bank how much they would loan you for a tool box and look at something from strictly toolboxes also.

A guy wanted to partial trade a couple of newer looking matco boxes for a F550 with mechanics bed. This was less than a week ago. He texted me a photo. I can post if you are interested. Probably 3.5-4 hours from Lubbock. The price he was asking was not to bad.

Just find someone hard up for money. I've got a line on a Snap On Classic 78 like new for $1000.

It's not that I need an 8th box but for that kind of $, why not?

I've got a line on a 68 epiq with a power top for 5k brand new. The deals are out there just have to look for them. Talk to your drivers

I'd buy a snap on before matco. Matco doesn't have the discounts snap on does

Unless your credit is trashed or you for sure can pay off the box within the 0% grace period you're far better off securing a loan for the purchase elsewhere. This will also give you greater flexibility with regards to where and what you buy.

Why? A truck box is 5x the box and not much more money

They really aren't that much better and you're talking about 2-3x the price for comparable sizes off the truck which is a HUGE difference. The vast majority of people don't have dealers pushing truck boxes at 50-70% discounts and on the occasions where they can secure said deals they generally don't offer them to new customers.

Do you have a title for a car or motorcycle? My bank does title loans at .9% so pretty much 0% for 3yr.

You could do that and find a used truck box on eBay or craigslist(pack a pistol lol) and come out much better.

Do not do a title loan elsewhere those are like 29.9% apr.

I have a box fianced through matco. I got a lower interest rate than snap on offered me. I got a good box and you can pay it off early and they will waive the interest. Its not a bad deal. Do what you want. Presonally I wouldnt buy a hf box.

It took me about a year of putting feelers out and looking for used ones, but I got my Snap On for >50% off, and probably paid more than I had for everything else I got off the truck combined in the couple years prior. So I wasn't exactly my driver's #1 customer. If you're going to be picky (I was, it's still a good chunk and I wanted it to be just what I wanted) you're probably gonna wait. If you're flexible, you could find a deal in 1/2-1/4 that long.

Either way... I just throw it out there that this is what I want, and this is my budget (within reason, naturally)... when something fits, call me, but if you want to call my bluff and think I'll pay MSRP, you won't sell me a box. :dunno:

FWIW, I had a KRL1023 offered to me (sale on new ones) for $3700. So while the Montezuma, etc. are a huge deal compared to retail on a truck box, I don't think the value is so great compared to realistic prices.

PS: Nothing wrong with a cheap box to hold you over while you deal-search. $400 for that HF could save you thousands when it lets you wait for the right deal (or save for a used truck box, cash) and then you can sell it for $300. ;)

My 2 cents. If you can't afford to pay cash for a tool box, you can't afford it. Same goes with car financing...or anything that depreciates in value. People that finance everything are destined to remain poor. There are too many people driving around in $40k cars that should be driving a $3k, paid-for car. Buy the HF box and invest the extra money you would be using to finance the high-priced one.. Apply this method to all your purchasing decisions and you will retire a wealthy man.

I don't finance anything that depreciates. A house is the only thing I recommend financing, unless you can save cash for it.

I saw a commercial today from a local bank. They offered home equity lines for you to take a vacation. How can anyone think that's a good plan.

This was your 8th post in as many years. That makes me think you feel strongly about what you typed.

I couldn't agree more. I wish more people would think about saving first instead of swiping a card or signing on the dotted line.

I have the 56" tool vault combo. I'm a heavy equipment tech and have been very pleased with it. It holds a lot of tools and has survived 3 moves on a roll back. For the $1900 I spent on it, it's worked well.

I have had two Matco boxes and they are fantastic boxes.
MOST tool trucks will have some access to used ( trade in ) boxes. My first was a repo. It was a great deal. You may not get the configuration you desire, but the savings could be significant.

Either way, you gotta get your tools inside the box. I am not going to tell you Matco or HF but you gotta protect your tools. No tools = no work. No work = no money.
