    McMaster Carr.... shipping?

When McMaster-Carr was in Monroe, NJ it was kind of a toss up whether to have them ship or pick up Now that they have relocated to Robbinsville, NJ I almost always place the order for customer pickup. Usually I'm not time specific, so I make my pick ups on Thursdays, when I'm already in...

    Worm Gear Hose Clamp

To those who replied, thanks for the help. McMaster-Carr was the best source, and since they have moved to Robbinsvile, NJ they are relatively convenient. I purchased a pack of five clamps and will use two for my project, keeping the other three as spares. Total was about $11.00 for the five.

    Worm Gear Hose Clamp

I have been looking for an extra-long worm gear clamp, but have not been able to find on the internet, Amazon, or Ebay. I'm hoping some Garage Journal members can point me in the right direction. Several years ago I got half dozen clamps from my Dad which were 36" long. I used a few of them and...

    pickup truck jacks

I'm on my second F350 Dually. First one (1999) came with a screw type bottle jack similar to Toyota jack an earlier poster mentioned. Used it both on the road and at home until I got an older (1950's Walker 4 ton) for home use. Then purchased a later Walker 4 ton (93657) and sold the first...

    Bottle jack worth repairing?

The Hein-Werner "Winner" brand was their cheaper imported line. Not of the same quality as the Milwaukee manufactured jacks. IF you want to play with it, knock yourself out. Even if you can source appropriate parts, you'll still be left with a cheap, imported jack,

    Craftsman Saltus wrench question

I have three (3/8, 7/16, & 1/2) from the early 1970's. Look like yours. Use them for small engine work.

    1/2 drive.... how important

I use 3/8 for lawn equipment and small engine, but for automotive I need 1/2 to get enough grunt.

Lefty hefty, righty lighty: reverse threading in the workplace

Briggs & Stratton engines of 2hp to 5hp had a left-hand thread on the crankshaft if rope started, and a right-hand thread if using a recoil starter. True for both cast iron as well as aluminum block engines.

    Unknown Vintage Floor Jack

Looks like a Weaver WA-75A or WA-75B 10 ton capacity. Visually similar to the WA-73A/B 4 ton. But 10 ton has 9" round saddle and 7" front wheels. Put a tape on it.

What's a tool that you will never replace it with its modern counterpart?

I'm a big believer in older (50's - 60's - 70's) American made floor jacks. I currently have a Hein-Werner OS 1 1/4 ton, a H-W WS 1 1/2 ton, and a Walker 93657 4 ton. All three work perfectly, soft parts are available, and re re-buildable. I use the two smaller H-W on my BMW and the wife's...

Having a hard time finding the right V belt size

I agree Vbeltguys are good and have them bookmarked. Also look at Vbelts4less and V-Belt Global Supply.

None of my neighbors park in their garage.

I do some of both. My wife insisted that the garage was not for storage (OK a little) and we have two cars and a pickup. Both cars are garaged and the pickup (F350 dually) is too big anyway. It stays on the driveway in front of my bay and the BMW). Fortunately, we have a walk-out basement with...

    New Hein werner

It's a Guardian H-102 which is the same hydraulics as a Hein-Werner WS 1 1/2 ton. The Guardian line was made by Hein-Werner to have a jack at a lower price point than their WS and OS models. The Guardian equivalents are H-101 (1 1/4 ton) and H-102 (1 1/2 ton). Again, hydraulics were the same but...

    Best Flour Jack

I agree with previous poster: The Milwaukee model 20 (2 ton) is the best jack, although it is expensive. Likewise if you need something bigger (like I do, with an F350 dually), the model 40 (4 ton) is the best. However, given the prices, and my economics, I am using older iron, which I consider...
