    Converting Drywall driver to drill?

September, 2019. Jim's Tool Repair in Eugene Oregon converted my Metabo SE 18 LTX 6000 Cordless drywall screwdriver last week. Remove the front gear case (three screws), then take out the one screw holding the gear case to the front plastic outer housing. Remove the drywall driver mechanism...

Drill speed question Corded and cordless

And, recall that one of the most used screwdriver types in the world are the 4000 rpm drywall screw drivers used to drive millions of screws every year in construction work.

Drill speed question Corded and cordless

4000 rpm is great, and I use them often. Even higher rpm can be useful. My corded 1/4" drill is rated at 4800 rpm. It is an old Steele brand, perhaps now defunct, and is a copy of a Makita drill of the same specifications. I use it at the workbench where it is ideal for small drill bits used...

    Converting Drywall driver to drill?

I have the same driver. It is my "go to" tool for making multiple pilot holes in hard wood. The speed gain is remarkable. Mine seems to be a copy of the Japanese Makita high speed 1/4" drill of several years ago. Milwaukee made a 4500 RPM drill at one time.

    Converting Drywall driver to drill?

RKSpeed has a great idea. I have a 4500 RPM cheap Chinese 1/4" drill that has proven ideal for drilling pilot holes in steel and hard woods. Small drill bits work best with high speed and the drilling speed difference between this drill and my cordless drills is impressive. I, too, would like...

    Drill Press; Securing Items

Ref. vise sizes, I have a 4" Ridgid conventional bench vise and a 6" Ridgid quick release bench vise. Both are useful but the 4" gets used more. These are not the cheapest nor the best vises but represent possibly the upper mid-range of vises.

    Can't understand the Festool Kool-Aid

The length of warranty responds to multiple factors, of which tool quality is only one. That said, I've read online that some Festool tools have had quality problems. I don't know if this remains the case on their most current line of tools. The Festool sliding arm saw I tried was notable for...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Hemdale, you are right: the rear jaw does the moving. I like the Leinen vise design (a few other brands are like it) because larger work pieces are held over the stationary part of the vise base, which in turn is fully supported by the work bench. That has always impressed me as a better...
