Motor Home Height to Design for

Good question! Right in the middle of the 36' wall.

    Foam insulation in ceiling?

I live in the same area and just DIYed blow in insulation. That's going to be your most affordable option. Be sure to add a vapor barrier underneath the insulation. Also don't forget to insulate the slab. I see a LOT of barns around here not bothering to do that. It's required by the code and a...

Motor Home Height to Design for

Building is already build at 22'1" with a 14x14 OH door on the short end. 64' length in building. The issue is the internal mezzanine space. Interesting feedback.

Motor Home Height to Design for

Does the 13'6" typically include the AC units? My building has 22' clear height in half the building, so depending on the placement of the AC unit it might not be an issue. My research is finding that a lot of motorhome are more like 12'9".

Motor Home Height to Design for

Hey all I posted here two years ago when I was getting ready to build my barn. The barn is built and my structural engineer and I just completed plans for an interior mezzanine. Building is 22'1" high (top of slab to bottom of ceiling), 36' wide, and 64' long. 14x14 overhead door. Mezzanine will...

ATV/Zero Turn Storage on Pallet Racking

I love the idea of a pallet stacker. Will be checking the auctions...I've never actually seen one at my local auctions. Thanks!

ATV/Zero Turn Storage on Pallet Racking

I've seen a few posts about this and read a few articles about this, but I'm still a little confused about how to execute it. I have an ATV (600 lb) and a Zero Turn Mower (1500 lb) that I would like to store up on pallet racking for the winter. The shelf would be approximately 7 ft up in the...

Slab Edge Insulation Detail for pole barn

Good question...a few reasons for not using the outer boards to hold the concrete 1. Reduces size of concrete pour slightly 2. Allows slab to float without encapsulating the posts 3. Eliminates posts as a thermal break 4. Simplifies geometry of concrete slab...just a rectangle...and would appear...

Slab Edge Insulation Detail for pole barn

Thanks for all the good thoughts guys. I probably should address the FPSF question first. Obviously there are two factors influencing slab edge and horizontal insulation design: slab structural concerns (frost heave) and energy efficiency concerns. The energy code and ASHRAE 90.1 are pretty...

Slab Edge Insulation Detail for pole barn

I've changed to 2". Not sure about going down to the frost line - by going that far I'm risking compromising the integrity of the poles and to be honest 40+ in is going to be a really tough dig for the entire perimeter of the building. As for the foam - I'm not sure I understand why 2" is...

Yes good point. I've modified to 2" XPS thanks

Slab Edge Insulation Detail for pole barn

Hi all Can you critique my slab edge insulation detail for my pole barn?. Climate zone 5a, unheated slab with a heated space. Code requires 24" of r-10 insulation on the edge of the slab. I'm installing r-7.5 1.5" xps around the perimeter and there will be r-19 batt in a cavity behind it. The...

How do people install slab-edge insulation?

Makes sense. Just an idea on heating - electric tube heating is going to get super-expensive super-fast if you have to run it a lot. You might want to look into putting that money into a heat pump setup - air source or geothermal. For air source, you'd have a condensing unit outside and a unit...

Stopping Echos on exterior of metal siding

Good idea but it would completely destroy the exterior appearance of the building and I doubt they'd stand up to weather.

Stopping Echos on exterior of metal siding

Yeah. Unfortunately I can't make that work with the location and building height but that's a heck of a good idea Maybe a active noise cancellation system like we use in office spaces these days on the deck. I dunno this came completely out of left field.
