Makes sense about drawing air from the outside. I really think this is the kind of heat source I want to put in. I will have a office upstairs and bathroom below it, I think the heat will gravitate into both. I like the radiant heat, warming everything below.
Anyone else have a similar building...
Last year I was asking questions about in floor radiant heat, but decided not to install. R-38 cellulose in ceiling and 2 in of closed cell on walls is what we are doing. I am going to keep heat in the shop all the time, (58 degrees)
I have propane.
There is a closed off loft 8x40, so it...
After I had my building up and getting ready to pour my concrete my neighbor started coming over more often and we would talk about things and within a few months he was building a shop all most identical to mine except 4 ft shorter (40x60x16), loft about the same. I'm paying as I go and he...
My building is 40x64x16 with the back wall where I'm putting in the loft. I say loft, but I am going to stud up the outer wall facing the interior of the shop and put metal on it. Don't want to be able to see up in the loft from down below, storage and a small area for desk and computer. In the...
Thanks Badger, I'm trying to get my head around all this.
I did talk with another company today. They are doing a lot of work locally. They told me they recommend doing a 3-4 inch spray of open cell at $1.60/ sq ft since I am going to put metal on the inside, R40 in the attic at $ 1.00 / sq...
My neighbor built a barn same size as mine and they ( not sure what it's called) put the packed cellulose in the walls and blew cellulose in the attic. The problem is I have heard that this could cause the metal to rust. They have metal on the outside, then cellulose, then metal on the inside...
After I foam the walls ( which ever foam I decide to use) I am going to run purlins on the inside and put galvanized metal on the walls. Will that work as a vapor barrier?
Jawmaw , thanks for the attachment, interesting. Makes me think 4-5 inches would work fine with no problems.
Cjk, your in...
Don't beat me up too bad guys, I have looked through the older post and still I just don't know what to do? My shop is 40x64x16, 2932 sq ft of wall space excluding overhead doors. A guy here locally ( fairly new to the foam) that does insulating gave me a price of a $1.50 for 4 in. of open cell/...
Thanks Rookie2, I did find a place today 75 miles from me that handles used styrofoam. All ready closed so I'll call again Monday. But I will contact those guys you listed also and see what I come up with. Thanks again
Thanks for all the replies gentleman. Well I have been looking for some used 2inch styrofoam, but no luck here locally yet or within decent driving distance. I do have some 1 inch and some 1 1/2 styrofoam, some 4x8s and some a little longer, and some just pieces that were ripped in half. I was...
Well, working on getting my shop (40x64x16) to the next phase with pouring my concrete. I know I'll be pissed if I don't put radiant floor heat in. I hear too many guys on this board tell us it's the only way to go, and I believe it. But as many have said it is expensive with upfront cost. I...
