Harbor Freight, Love Them Or Hate Them

I’ve been accumulating a fairly large quantity of items from HF over the last few years. In the 90’s, I used to be a firm believer in USA made tools, over any other specification. And most definitely some of the best tools for my purposes are made here in the USA. That said, with current...

Brain Trust assist needed on a Tool Cart

Yeah, that is the worst design possible for the majority of tool cart buyers. I’d hope that there aren’t too many more on the market like that.

My Late Father and Metric Tools

I run into that frustration in the turf equipment industry. I work on a variety of brands, some are almost all SAE or metric, some are mixed. John Deere is a pisser. They are 99% metric now if I had to guess. But they throw in hardware and parts on an assembly that could/should be all, say...

    Extractors

Depends on what you’re working on. I’ve also had very little luck with both spiral and straight extractors. I would not invest much into either. Spend it on left hand and right hand drill bits, taps, helicoil kits, etc that you may need.

    Schneider at Harbor Freight

Two random thoughts on the HF name game: I agree that many on the names are silly, and could be better thought out. The volume of different names makes sense. That are trying to up the game, quickly. They are putting out some truly decent new products, quickly. If they build a name for a...

Does anyone make a 16mm deep socket in 1/4" drive?

Just curious, is the purpose of this socket for a Specific use?

Shopping for a tool box, help!

IMO, the exact thing you don't want to buy used, particularly for your home shop use, is a box that holds value well. Find a smoking deal on a big box that's lost 70-80% of its original value. Matco particularly, and Mac are two great examples in my area. Snap on is not a good example. If you...

    WrightGrip combination wrench metric length

They're all short. I had large sets of Metric and SAE, sold them. Great quality wrenches, but they have really limited themselves with their length. If they had a full polished chrome long length in both SAE and metric I'd have been all over them. Too bad.

    Buying 1st Compressor

If it were me, I'd buy a less expensive compressor from HF or one of the home improvement stores, on sale. When or if you need to upgrade at some point, spend some real money for a shop air compressor later. You don't need much to blow off parts, or run a small air tool on rare occasions.

    NAPA Carlyle Screwdrivers?

There is some added value to a tool when it's replacement is hand delivered within an hour or two!!

    NAPA Carlyle Screwdrivers?

I'm surprised that people have issues with tool warranty at Napa. I've only swapped out maybe 3 pieces, 2 of which were quite old. Replaced with Carlyle, no questions asked. Must have much more to do with the person/store than Napas policy.

    NAPA Carlyle Screwdrivers?

I'll second the idea of not buying sets till they're on sale. At full price most of the Carlyle stuff is too expensive. The funny thing is their individual prices of some pieces are reasonable, whereas many other brands are way too expensive individually. Which brings up MY issue with Napa...

    Garage heater

With significant ventilation, they seem to be decent. Can you not install a permanent, vented propane heater though? Way better than the portable, or wall mount non-vented. As someone above said, unless you only use it in occasionally, or in a cool but not cold climate, the non vented wall mount...

New Cornwell Dealer kicking SO's A$$!!

I'd like to see a cornwell dealer, or any tool truck that actually wants my business. Last year I had a snap on guy that agreed to sell to me, stopped by once, but wouldn't come to me regularly as I'm out of his way and admittedly not purchasing a huge amount. This I'm fine with. He let me...
