Yea you guys are probably right. Based of what I am seeing here they really don't give clear cut ceiling joist charts like. The only reasons I was leaning towards I-joist was I was under the impression they were both cheaper, smaller, and lighter than going traditional lumber. Perhaps the big...
That is what I am seeing too for regular lumber. For I-joists it doesn't seem like they make them strong enough for that span if i am looking at this right.
I had the same thought, I actually just got back from there. They were not much help other than I was able to get the brand they use to use the proper chart. Back in the 90's I used to go to school for drafting. I could have sworn we had generalized charts that were not so brand specific but I...
Can anyone recommend a good source for figuring out I-joist size for ceiling? I need to span 20ft, 24in OC if possible, no attic space above, and insulation and most likely ribbed pvc panel for covering.
Sorry guy I didn't see your reply. Yes it is a Menards building built by A&K of Elkhorn. What kind of tractors and trucks you building down there in Elkhorn?
True, I contemplated going foam the main reason I didn't I am just going to go around doing each section between the beams as I can afford and when I have time to do it. I run a side business out of this shop so even though I don't really take on jobs this time of year because its cold as hell...
I would say no. The previous home owner built this polebarn, so his needs were probably not the same as mine if he never insulated it. If i was building new I would just make sure the windows weren't placed so stupidly. lol I have 3 windows in this pole barn and only 2 of are tight to post...
Was kinda leaning towards 1/2 ply or even some sort 4x8 sheets of siding so I have the ability to have a good screw surface to where ever I may want to mount stuff to the walls.
Yea it is just to create a ceiling so I can insulate it. Your thinking along the same ways I was kinda thinking, didn't realize I could use a joist hanger to accomplish this, good idea.
Going to be framing out the inside of my shop soon in order to insulate it. I have 2 wall sections like this (see my attachment) where the window is up tight to the post so i can't run any full length studs on that side. I also plan on putting ceiling joists that will sit on top of this wall...
Googling what the difference between a vapor and moisture barrier was, I came across something called an air barrier. Its its described as impermeable to air flow and continuous over the entire building, which describes this wrap on my building pretty much. There is a fiberglass center layer...
My pole barn was built with a insulation wrap added before they put the metal on. See attached photos. How should I go about dealing with this when I stud this out and add more insulation? I am assuming this wrap acts as a moisture barrier, I really don't know for sure its plastic backed...
I haven't looked at any smart system yet, just haven't had the time. Was hoping with this post I would get a couple of recommendations that I could focus in on and do some research from there. With the holiday weekend coming up here soon I have a really long weekend to sit down and figure out...
