Advice for foundation for a large shed

I would stay away from pea gravel...it won't compact, and always stays "loose". If you really need gravel, and plan on moving a vehicle in and out of the shed, I would suggest 5/8" minus. It compacts well, and vehicle tires don't sink in if left for an extended amount of time. It will work even...

Running a new line inside the wall - photo inside

Is 14-2 wire what your 220v compressor instructions recommend? Just asking, because mine required 8-2 w/ground. It's only a 5hp single stage. Instead of running mine in the wall, I just bend conduit to get it to the compressor, hugging the ceiling. If I didn't point it out, you'd never notice...

wiring a dimmer swith for a light in house

Let me make sure I read your post correct. Are you saying that there is one copper wire unhooked? Is it a bare copper wire...no plastic coating on it? That's your ground wire....it goes to the green wire in the switch. Scott

How long to cover fresh concrete

Takes 27 days for a full cure...during that time there's alot going on in there...contraction/expansion. I'd bet that most manufacturers would want you to wait for a full cure before applying anything to seal it with epoxy. Curing compound can be sprayed on after finishing...but that's something...

Getting Insane Quotes for Running Natural Gas to Garage...Solution?

I work for the city in the town I live in ..in Public Works dept... 1. Rent yourself a sod cutter, makes a nice clean cut in your beautiful lawn. Fold it over to the opposite side that your ditcher windrows your soil. 2. Go to town with the ditch witch....hand dig around the existing lines...

    Hanging a Hot Dawg Heater

X-2 with hammlm...it's really awkward getting up on top of the ladder, but doable. I don't have any neighbors that will help...so I got everything ready and easliy accessible...(nuts/washers). Set the ladder up so I could still reach the threadall coming out of the ceiling...and have room to...

    asphalt grades

Hmmm...not sure what the 6f stands for...I'm sure different states have different terms for the same thing. Generally, road bases are built with 1/2" aggregate, and capped with 3/8" aggregrate mix. I'm sure your local asphalt plant can tell you what they recommend for your application though...

    Winterizing sprinklers

I do mine every year...run one zone at a time...but don't run air for too long. Especially if you have PVC...the air gets really hot, and can ruin joints, or even cause melt down. I also remove my backflow valve and bring it in for the winter...those sucka's are expensive to replace. Scott

Broom finish or smooth finish when using Paint on floor??

Thanks so much Fred! Do you have any retailers near Spokane, WA? Or is it best to just purchase through you directly? I have a friend that I'm helping out on a 30x 36 shop who wants the entire floor covered. Any idea on a cost for that kind of area? Thanks again!! Scott

Broom finish or smooth finish when using Paint on floor??

This question is for the guys that have used the painted on flooring. What did the manufactuer recommend? A smooth finish or a light broomed finish prior to applying the flooring material? This is going onto a new floor, and I'll be laying down a vapor-barrier beneath. Thanks in advance!! Scott

    Lifting a cement floor

Yes, there are companies out there that lift concrete that settles. When I was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, CA, we contracted a company to lift several concrete slabs on our airfield that had settled out of spec for our aircraft. They did an analysis of the concrete (cracked, spalled...

    Pissed at my excavator-need opinions

X2 with Mezzanine on the compaction of the dozer/ crawler tractor. Dozers are designed to disperse the load of the equipment through the tracks, not compating as they move. Most people figure..."heck, it's heavy enough...must be compacting". Clay holds alot of moisture, and will expand/...
