Not sure. They used a 1/2" electric drill. Much like I would use to remove lug nuts. A Dewalt, I think.

I did suggest maybe loosening the fasteners and found they thought that was silly.

Well, the correct answer, at least from my builder who contacted me just as the pump truck was driving up, was to keep the straps 1-1/2" back from the edge. So with a three stud corner for example, the strap would make contact with the second and third studs.
