    temporary heat for drywall/ mudding

Just did a similar thing last month. Rented a couple 1500w portable heaters and borrowed one from my neighbor. Ran them 24/7 for about a week to get the tape/mud to dry before paint. Temps were upper 40s to low 50s outside but inside those three heaters got it up to over 70. Of course, it...

    Insulate detached garage or not?

Just finished up a 600sq ft detached right around Thanksgiving time in the Pacific NW. Insulated ceiling and walls; R38/R21 respectively. Baffles in the ceiling for airflow. It is about 48 degrees out today and inside it is at 54 with no heating installed. My little 1500 watt space heater will...

    Flagstone patio

I did a flagstone patio back in 2014. It is about 19x16. The pictures were taken this year so it has held up really well. The stones are 2" thick. We first dug down 9" across the whole area. Then filled with 5" of 5/8" minus crushed rock and plate compacted that. Followed that with 2" of...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Very nice! I am building a 20x30 with 10' right now and went with the same fixtures (12) and similar 4000k bulbs. Haven't got the electrical in yet to see how the lights will do so your pics give me a good idea how they will look. I thought about the 5000k but I felt like it would be too bright...

    Sill Seal - Y or N

He wasn't implying that the windows would be tight. Only that the foam was responsible for the high spots on the bottom plate as opposed to the places where it was bolted down. I'm thinking if that was know to be a thing, couldn't he have cut a small square of the seal and doubled up at each...

    Sill Seal - Y or N

Not sure. They used a 1/2" electric drill. Much like I would use to remove lug nuts. A Dewalt, I think.

    Sill Seal - Y or N

I did suggest maybe loosening the fasteners and found they thought that was silly.

    Sill Seal - Y or N

Here's a photo of the 2x6 in question. He cut it down slightly so that window sill is flat. You can see that it sits right about in the middle of the two foundation bolts.

    Sill Seal - Y or N

I am having a 20x30 detached garage built right now. I have asked the framers to put down a sill seal between the treated bottom plate and the 1 foot stem wall. I kind of got the "Why?" look from them, but they went ahead and did it any way. Well, time comes to frame in the window after its...

Advice on man-door/window for new garage

Greetings, New detached 20'x30'x10' garage will begin early October and I need to pick out a man-door and window for it. I have about a $500 budget for both. Door will be 36" wide. Window will be a 4'x3' slider. The box stores leave me with options of just Jeld-Wen and Reliabilt for doors and...

    Simpson STHD14 location

Well, the correct answer, at least from my builder who contacted me just as the pump truck was driving up, was to keep the straps 1-1/2" back from the edge. So with a three stud corner for example, the strap would make contact with the second and third studs.
