    Evaporust leaving a weird smell

I've got a few pieces that the smell just sticks to, even weeks after taking them out. One thing I learned the hard way is to not use it for things that cant be completely taken apart. I put an old wrench into the evaporust, only to realize later that I wouldn't be able to get at a large cavity.

    Evaporust leaving a weird smell

I guess I'll have to do a better job scrubbing right after taking the parts out of the solution.

King **** Adjustable wrenches, anyone actually use theirs?

I've only ever come across one King **** wrench, and honestly its beautifully made. Very tight tolerances considering its age what it is. I also have a few Billings & Spencer wrenches of similar size. Honestly, between the two, I'd probably use the latter, if I had to use a wrench like these...

    Evaporust leaving a weird smell

So I've been restoring old tools for a few years now and figured I'd give Evaporust a try. Works great, but no matter what I do, I cant get rid of this really weird smell it leaves on the metal, I assume held in the pitting that I cant reach with wirebrush tools. Anyone else have this problem...

    rust removal

What do you mean when you say non-conductive bucket? I assumed all buckets made of plastic were non-conductive

Whitman & Barnes Railroad Special Wrench

Got this bad Larry off ebay, probably one of the easier restorations Ive done. I've done a good number of wrenches now, and I'm still going back and forth on the best way to get them running smooth again. My normal method is to take wrenches completely apart and really scour the rust and...

    Ford Wrench Redone

Oh I mean if I was gonna do a brass screw I'd make it myself and do a flathead slot. I don't really posess the skill to cut a hex shape into anything. As long as I don't overtighten it wouldn't be too much of a problem

    Ford Wrench Redone

I bought this wrench for $5 and tried my best cleaning it, but since I couldn't take it apart due to the pin being peened in place, it wasn't quite good enough. It ran all kinds of rough and required two hands to use. So I drilled out the peening, really cleaned what I couldn't previously reach...

    Parallel Jaw Pliers

Oooh okok. The number on the box here seems to me to indicate they were made in 1992, so I'm doubtful of them having any serious value. I plan to use them as pliers, so I'll probably strip that cosmoline off. Any reccomendation on what to oil them with to keep the rust away?

    Parallel Jaw Pliers

I got these parallel jaw pliers at a store recently, the second pair I've come across, though this one is in much better condition. It's coated in this hard layer of what I assume is grease that isn't present on the older ones. Should I leave it on or try and get it off?

    Rough Ford Wrench

Oh I mean this ain't my first restoration, just figured Id ask around in case.

    Rough Ford Wrench

I got this little ford automotive wrench for something like $5 recently. The pin holding the thumb screw in place seems to be peened in, and I haven't quite figured out how to remove it, so I had to leave it together for the cleaning process. Thing is, even after I cleaned it, the thing runs...

    Old Tool Collection

I'm quite happy with it. Usually I like to find tools in rough shape so I can restore them myself, but I couldn't pass this one up.

    Old Tool Collection

Here's the vintage tools I've collected (Or hoarded, depending on your perspective) over the past couple years. These wrenches make great gifts too, and I've managed to part with about 6 or 7 that aren't pictured here. Knowledge or insight about any of them is always appreciated!
