    Attaching pex to wire mesh

I was told to use zip ties to attach the pex to the wire mesh for in slab radiant. Is there something special about these zip ties, or can I just use regular zip ties that I can get for free? http://www.supplyhouse.com/Viega-15304-Zip-Ties-Bag-of-100-5305000-p

    Floor drain or not?

So for a trench drain at the door, where does the water go? Just evaporates over time? How deep do you make it? Problems will smell?

    Floor drain or not?

Garage will be just mainly daily driver in/out. My main concern is with water buildup from rain/snow. I'd rather do some extra work now than have to pull in the driveway, get out in the snow, brush off the car as much as I can, get back in, dirty my car, then pull into the garage. Kind of...

    Floor drain or not?

Building a 26x32 garage. I thought of a drain before the walls were poured but didn't really have much time to research it, but apparently my town is okay with it. The slab is not poured yet though, so I guess all I'm really set back is that I'd have to core a hole through my new foundation...

    pex type and layout

Some of my confusion stems from images such as this. It shows working from the outside in and then inside and back out for "even distribution". Does this not really matter much and I can run the loops as you suggested and be fine...

    pex type and layout

I've read many different websites that each say a different kind of pex is best for radiant. Can anyone give me a definitive answer? Is it Pex-Al? Also, what about design? 300ft seems to be the largest run I should go, but the garage will be all 1 zone and it's 26x32. Just do 3 separate loops...

    Geothermal radiant heat

Correct - I plan on purchasing a separate unit for heating. They said not to use this one for radiant heating. Any recommendations on what I should use? Water heater or boiler? Brands?

    Geothermal radiant heat

Garage is 26x32 with living space about, so about 1700 sq ft. I want to size it to do the existing house too, about another 2000 sq ft. I am in new england (MA). I called someone to get a price of a geo system, and I think when I see it I'm probably going to end up sticking with a high...

    Spray foam under slab

@BlackTalon - Makes sense, thanks for the input. What PSI rigid foam is recommended underneath a 6" slab? Is 40 the lowest I should go with, but prefer 60? @Anthony66 - I had originally got the idea of using spray foam under the slab from you, haha :) It seems most people are saying not to do...

    Spray foam under slab

I noticed that a lot of people use XPS rigid foam boards under the slab, and that most recommend using boards with higher PSI than 25 so the slab and cars do not crack it underneath. I see that foamular makes 40, 60, and 100psi boards. Am I better off going with spray foam underneath? Does spray...

    Geothermal radiant heat

Has anyone done this that can weigh in on exactly how it's done and if it's worth it? Doing a garage addition and I plan on doing radiant heat inside the slab as well as on the 2nd floor. Looking for the most economical way of heating the spaces. How would geothermal work, and is it worth it...

How do I make a thermal break at the garage door?

Thanks. Most of these seem to have just aluminum on both sides and no polyethylene foam like the low-e one does. Would just plain aluminum work between two solid surfaces? It wouldn't just transfer between the two? Most of these seem to be installed in attics.

How do I make a thermal break at the garage door?

Where to get it seems to be a mystery. I have contacted the "distributors" listed on their page and so far no one even knows what I'm talking about. Have any links for a Home Depot alternative?
