So where's everyone buying their wire these days? NM-B/Romex specifically..

Just a DIYer myself but I get romex rolls from Greybar in Hamilton. I think I bought a 150m roll last time and per-meter is was 30% cheaper than HD. There was slightly cheaper wire on marketplace but I prefer knowing the counter that it came from.

Do you mark or flag the feed wire into a workbox?

Was chatting with my dad who mentioned he would put a "flag" of electrical tape on the wire supplying power to a workbox in his homes. Dad was not an electrician but his father (my grandfather) was for decades with Canadian Fisheries. I was just curious if there's a standard or common practice...

    TEMPORARY Welder outlet

You can. L1-L1, L2-L2, omit neutral, ground to ground. 10 gauge. If you find you're not going to go with an interlock-protected inlet you could just swap the inlet to a 14-30r and use a dedicated adapter until the barn is built.

    Stumped! Another Big Maxx Problem

Might be worth your time to do like this and get a gauge on the supply line. You should be just fine with ½". This old 100k BTU heater pulls 8"WC static down to 5.5" running on the end of 12' of ½" pipe.

Temporary way to heat hydro floor heat

Surprised nobody has mentioned the diesel heaters yet? They're cheap ($150/unit) and put out about 25k. They burn ½L of diesel / furnace oil per hour. You need a 12v power source for it so either a battery or a power supply (10A for a few minutes then drops to 2A)

    Stumped! Another Big Maxx Problem

That's 12" WC with the unit running, right? I see you chimed in on another old thread about a similar setup. Are you running dual tanks like you wanted to? Did you ever have this machine running on NG? I feel like the flames are undersized. I didn't watch this guys whole video (I'm at...

    Buying electrical supplies

Electrical supply store saves me a lot on wire, a little bit on fixtures and oddly very little on receptacles. I do know a guy who processes my orders but they're open to the public. I'd definitely come up with a list and bring it to a supply house for a quote. Retail for wire is terrible...

Best practice for wiring a compressor

I'm fortunate that the tool room was wired in the walls with an 8/3, 12/2 and a spare 15A circuit terminating in an enclosure. The outlets and lighting are on yet more circuits. The prior owner did a lot of epoxy work and this room is heavily insulated, had a gas run (I removed it) and vent...

Best practice for wiring a compressor

I'll find myself a 20A and rewire with SOOW. Thanks for the input.

Best practice for wiring a compressor

I picked up a HuskyPro 60 gallon compressor that has no cord on it. I have a 12/2 run into the tool room on a 15A double pole breaker. I started mocking it up with BX but I don't see anyone else using BX but SOW or SOOW. I do have SOOW on hand but is there any reason not to use BX? Is...

Running compressed air pipe in the shop. 1/2 with a reserve tank or 3/4 from the source?

Appreciate all the feedback. 8CFM/60gallon is the minimum I'm looking for. I have room for a larger compressor if a deal presents itself. Then the good points of a small blasting cabinet which I hadn't considered that yet. As Firebrick and Mike said 3/4" increases capacity at minimal cost so...

Running compressed air pipe in the shop. 1/2 with a reserve tank or 3/4 from the source?

I'm putting together my hobby shop and need air lines out to the work bench on the opposite corner about 70' of pipe away. Compressor will be in the tool room (expected 60 gallon & at least 8CFM @ 90psi). There will be a tire machine (4 CFM) and road-force balancer (4 CFM) at the far end of...

    Electrician Assistance Cost?

This is accurate for me too. Buddy is in an electrical parts house and the savings are 20-40% off box store. Wire, EMT, hardware, and he's still got a small margin in there for the company. Oddly receptacles were about the same but even when they're a few points more I just bought through the...

    My Maxjax Installation

You've already cut the concrete so you're on your path now. You keep saying you don't want anchors, but it's what the vast majority of commercial hoists with twice the lift capacity use. New Tesla dealers make the contractors cast in J-bolts for the hoists and the hoist installers have no...

    Check out my new $1200 2006Lanair mx150.

I ran one of those Vevor oil heaters for a winter and it worked well. Only traded it when I went to a NG furnace (although now I wish I didn't). If you can find a source of clean waste oil I found mine to be pretty decent. Automotive shops often have waste oil tanks behind them. If you rig...
